Join us this afternoon for our Last Post Serviceโa weekly tradition honouring wartime service and sacrifice.
At this todays service we pause to commemorate Australia's first involvement in the Malayan Emergency on 27 June 1950. Six Lincoln bombers from No. 1 Squadron and a flight of Dakotas from No. 38 Squadron, both belonging to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), deployed as part of the Far East Air Force. This marked the beginning of Australia's contribution to the conflict.
The Last Post Service is a family-friendly event featuring stirring bugle calls, wreath-laying, and the lowering of flags. Each week we commemorate a unique chapter in Australiaโs military history, offering you a meaningful way to reflect and connect.

On 18 June 2008, the final members of the ADF Overwatch Battle Group returned home from Iraq on RAAF C-130 Hercules transport planes, signifying the conclusion of Australia's combat mission in that country. This marked a turning point in Australia's involvement in the Middle East.
This afternoon, we are pausing to honour all who served in Iraq, and their families who supported them throughout deployments.
Join us for the Last Post Service, our weekly tradition honouring wartime service and sacrifice.
Each service commemorates a unique chapter in Australia's military history โ through bugle calls, bagpipes, wreath-laying, and the lowering of flags. All are welcome.

On this day, 30 years ago, members of the 5th Aviation Regiment and the Special Air Service Regiment were conducting a night live-fire training exercise near Townsville when two Australian Army Black Hawk helicopters collided.
Fifteen service personnel from the Special Air Service Regiment and three aircrew from the 5th Aviation Regiment lost their lives. A further 12 personnel were injured.
The Black Hawk tragedy remains Australia's worst peacetime military aviation disaster.
A wreath-laying service will take place in the Sanctuary at 3.30 pm to honour the service and sacrifice of the Special Air Service Regiment. This year's service marks the 30th anniversary of the Black Hawk tragedy.
Lest we forget. ๐น
