ABC is looking for storytellers for International Day of People with Disability
Are you an emerging content maker with disability? Do you have a burning story that you have always wanted to research and explore?
The ABC is partnering with International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) to recognise the 5.5 million Australians with disability.
A series of factual stories and content will be commissioned by the ABC to be published and broadcast across ABC platforms for IDPwD on December 3.
Calling all budding storytellers living with disability
If you are an emerging content maker or journalist with disability and have a story to tell, now is your chance to work with the ABC to tell it.

Paternalistic and infantilising language is part of the everyday experience of people with disabilities.
It’s not affectionate, or even benign- It has serious consequences.
This language reinforces power dynamics and ‘others’ people with disabilities, and this is where abuse and neglect thrive.
Tenant Voice, is challenging this language through their ’No Sweetie’ campaign
‘No Sweetie’ uses humour to tackle a serious subject and in particular focuses on provider behaviour. Tenant Voice is asking people to buy a t-shirt/cap, grab a ’sweetie free zone’ poster for their home to tell providers this language is not welcome here.
