Congratulations Mikayla McLean!

Mikayla competed in the South Coast Secondary Cross Country Championships last Friday in the 18 Years 4km race, where she placed 1st with an outstanding time of 15:40.

As a result of this fantastic achievement, Mikayla has qualified for the NSW All Schools State Cross Country Championships.

We are incredibly proud of her effort, dedication, and commitment to training, and wish her all the best as she progresses to the next level of competition.

We love hearing what our alumni are up to!

Former FISC student Derek Buchanan (from the Illawarra Senior College days) was recently back in Wollongong appearing in the District Court as a Criminal Barrister. Before the dayโ€™s proceedings began, he caught up for a coffee with his former Legal Studies teacher, Neil K**i.

We're always proud to see the paths our former students take and the impact they make.

If you're a former student and would like to share your story, send us a message on Messenger or email [email protected].

๐Ÿ“šโš–๏ธ Preliminary Legal Studies Excursion โ€“ Wollongong Court Complex โš–๏ธ๐Ÿ“š

The Preliminary Legal Studies students recently visited the Wollongong Court Complex for a firsthand look at the NSW justice system in action.

After a brief introduction, students were given the opportunity to explore different courtrooms and observe real-life proceedings โ€” from engaging courtroom moments to, at times, plenty of paper shuffling (depending on the case!). Armed with worksheets and curiosity, they immersed themselves in the experience.

๐ŸŽฏ Our focus:
To examine the effectiveness of the court process in NSW, considering both the advantages and, in particular, the challenges in ensuring a fair trial and justice for all.

Students observed a wide range of matters โ€” from everyday legal issues involving people not much older than themselves, through to the sentencing of a serious drug trafficking case.

It was a valuable opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the criminal justice system. The day also included a well-earned lunch in town, and we hope students returned with deeper understanding and knowledge to support their future studies in legal issues.
