We are excited to hand over the Ian Potter State Theatre back to Arts Centre Melbourne. After closing to the public in March 2024, the Ian Potter State Theatre underwent its most significant refurbishment since opening in 1984.
The upgrade has provided:
- greater accessibility and new seating, giving more options for patrons with mobility challenges
- flooring and air-conditioning improvements for increased audience comfort
- technology upgrades with better acoustics, new state-of-the-art lighting and technical infrastructure, bringing the theatre into the 21st century.
While the Arts Centre Melbourne team undertakes testing and commissioning ahead of opening night in early October, have a look at some of the construction pictures from the last two years!
Beyond the Ian Potter State Theatre, more improvements are being made to Arts Centre Melbourne’s Theatres Building.

Equally, we are committed to setting a strong example as leaders in diversity, equity and inclusion both for the development industry and across the public sector.
A huge congratulations and thank you to all the staff involved in our DEI working groups who are the engine room of this work.

We're all in for National Reconciliation Week 🖤☀️❤️
This week, our First Peoples Partnerships Working Group led a whole-of-organisation session, sharing some practical examples of how our commitment to advancing self-determination is being delivered across our portfolio of projects.
With panels from the Tarratarra Stadium and Silverbrook teams, we reflected on how our projects are uplifted through strengthening our relationships with Traditional Owners and First Peoples communities, and our efforts to prioritise visible cultural values, language revitalisation and procurement from Aboriginal-owned businesses.
