Community shows opposition to glass-only bin ❌

Bayside residents are among thousands of Victorians opposing a proposed fourth glass recycling bin, with strong support instead for expanding the Container Deposit Scheme to include glass bottles.

We're one of 35 Victorian councils calling for a more practical, cost-effective solution, urging the State Government to reconsider its July 2027 deadline.

Keeping our Local Laws current ✅

Following feedback from the Bayside community and traders during our stage 1 engagement program, we’ve drafted a proposed new Local Law and Footpath Trading Policy in line with what we’ve been told so far.

The proposed changes make the rules:
• clearer and easier to understand
• fairer and more consistent
• easier to follow and enforce
• easier and more affordable for businesses to use outdoor spaces for signage, displays and dining.

🔗 For more information and to share your feedback about the proposed amendments, visit yoursay.bayside.vic.gov.au/LocalLaw

👋 You can also chat to the team at one of the 7 face-to-face ‘Talk to us’ sessions. Registration is required. Visit the Have Your Say page for all event details and to register your attendance.

Consultation closes Sunday 19 July.

A wonderful day of connection at the Lifetime of Skills Expo 💜

Held at Brighton Town Hall in support of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, the Lifetime of Skills: Learn, Share, Connect Expo brought together more than 100 community members to share stories, skills, experiences and plenty of laughter.

The event celebrated the strengths, talents and contributions of older people while helping to challenge ageism, strengthen community connections and reduce loneliness and social isolation.

From singing, croquet and art to costumes and make-up, origami, mahjong, knitting, quilting and more, there was something for everyone to enjoy. It was wonderful to see people learning new skills, making connections and discovering local groups and activities across Bayside.

A massive thank you to all of the community groups, volunteers and participants who helped make the day such a success 🤝💜

Supporting Ros and Paddy to live well and stay independent at home 🐕‍🦺❤️

With a helping hand from Bayside Care and Support, Ros and her loyal guide dog Paddy stay independent and active in the community.

Ros’ assigned Care Partner, Kate, coordinates services and appointments for Ros, including visits from a podiatrist and other health professionals.

“Council has been fantastic with their support,” Ros said. “I have help with the floors and tidying each week, and someone assists with shopping every second week”.

Soft plastic recycling in Bayside 19/06/2026

Recycling soft plastics in Bayside just got easier ♻️

You can now drop off your soft plastic wrappers and bags at the Bayside Waste and Recycling Centre in Cheltenham, plus the Woolworths at Black Rock, Hampton and Highett.

Because soft plastics can’t go in your household recycling bin, using these drop-off points is a simple way to reduce landfill.

🔗 Learn more:

Soft plastic recycling in Bayside Soft plastics like wrappers and bags can now be recycled at a number of participating supermarkets or dropped off at the Bayside Waste and Recycling Centre. This material is then taken to a facility where it's processed into oil before being turned into new plastics, fuel, or road infrastructure.
