A Sweet Reading Adventure is almost here! In just 1 more week, registration opens for our 2026 Bookland Explorers program! Get ready to step into a Candyland-inspired world where every page is a treat and every program is a new adventure.

How does it work?

Sign up at your local South Central Regional Library on or after June 30 and receive your Bookland Explorers program package.
Then, start reading—every minute counts! Track your reading time in your log as you go.
Trade your reading minutes for “Candy Coins” and weekly book draw tickets.
Spend your Candy Coins on instant prizes, or save them to enter grand prize draws for a chance to win exciting rewards!

Children ages 3–13 with South Central Regional Library cards can sign up and join the fun!

South Central Regional Library Altona is home to a PurpleAir Air Quality Sensor.

We have have the only one in Altona, and it is conveniently located on the Altona Mall roof.

Our Purple Air Sensor collects air quality data in real time. The sensor measures PM2.5 which consists of particles in the air like smoke and dust.

The air quality can change quickly, and greatly affect those who have allergies or asthma, among other things.

If you are wanting to know the air quality in our area, you can visit www.purpleair.com and search ALTONA into the search bar; or you can find a direct link to the website in our link tree, located on both of our social media platforms.

Levels 1-3 are the ideal air quality for any and all outdoor activities.
