Ever wondered what it’s like to step inside an artist’s studio? Not just any studio, but one where huge, dozens-of-feet-wide paintings come to life?
Come take a peek with us into the creative space of Cameron Cross as he works on a Van Gogh–inspired “Sunflowers” piece.
All the prep work is done, and now he’s deep into the most exciting part — actually painting the artwork and bringing this massive canvas to life, brushstroke by brushstroke.

Thank you for participating in our Tree Planting Workshop and contributing to Altona’s Urban Forest Strategy by helping expand our tree canopy.
During the workshop, we planted 72 trees in Ash Park, and participants will be planting an additional 45 trees on their own properties. Together, that's 117 new trees helping to grow a greener, healthier Altona!
We look forward to seeing photos of the trees you've planted.
Complete the survey https://forms.microsoft.com/r/6kZ2iarTqi and send us a photo of your newly planted tree at [email protected], or stop by the Altona Civic Centre (111 Centre Ave E) with a photo and answer the survey questions in person.
Everyone who completes the survey and submits a photo will be entered to win a prize!

Dutch elm tree will be inspected again this season
During June and July, provincial inspectors will be driving or walking around both public and private properties to look for Dutch Elm Disease-infected trees and elm firewood with bark attached. Storing elm firewood with bark is illegal, as it can spread DED.
Please note:
• Inspectors may be working evenings and weekends. They wear high-visibility vests and government-issued identification.
• Provincial inspectors may not approach every resident or house before entering properties to conduct inspections.
• Representatives from the Province will ring doorbells or knock prior to:
- taking branch samples,
- marking infected trees, or
- identifying elm firewood for removal.
Reminder: Elms cannot be pruned between April 1 and July 31. The bark beetles that spread Dutch Elm Disease are attracted to fresh pruning cuts.
