This was such a nice afternoon to hold the Pride Month proclamation and flag raising. Thank you to everyone who took part in this important annual event.

Mayor Small proclaimed June as Pride Month in Amherst by reading the official proclamation. He then welcomed Cumberland Prideโ€™s 2026 Pride Marshal โ€“ Emma Brown โ€“ to the podium. Emma spoke about her work with the Pride committee over the years, as well as her personal journey and the journey of her child. Thank you for sharing your story, Emma.

Find more information about Pride Month events on the Cumberland Pride-Nova Scotia page, including this Saturdayโ€™s vendor market and Pride Parade in Downtown Amherst.

Happy Pride, everyone!

The Town of Amherst will begin its water main flushing program starting Monday, June 8, 2026. Flushing work will continue for approximately five weeks.

During this time, customers may experience turbidity (cloudy or brown water) and low water pressure.

Residents may need to run their cold water (not hot water) for 5-10 minutes, or until water becomes clear. It is recommended that you thoroughly flush your system following this time to release any trapped air or sediment from your system.

Anyone with questions about the water main flushing program can contact Town Hall (M-F, 8:30-4:30) at 902-667-3352 or [email protected].

For after hours Public Works emergency service, please call Amherst Police Dispatch at 902-667-8600.

Access Awareness Week is a time to highlight what true accessibility looks like in everyday life, especially right here in our community.

Innovative supports like Nova Scotia-born and local company RAYMEX Lift are helping people maintain independence, safely move through their homes, and recover from falls with dignity in a single device.

The RAYMEXยฎ Lift was created after its co-founder experienced firsthand the challenges families face when a loved one begins to fall more frequently and existing mobility tools fall short. Developed in collaboration with engineers, clinicians, and healthcare professionals, it focuses on dignity, safety, and real-world usability.

It is a portable 3-in-1 mobility, transfer, and fall-recovery aid designed to support people in staying mobile and independent at home and in the community. The device can lower to the floor, raise to standing height, and function as a walking and support aidโ€”all in one system.
Its multifunctional design means it can act as:
โ€ข A walker for daily mobility
โ€ข A transfer aid for standing and sitting
โ€ข A lifting device for safe fall recovery

Accessibility is about more than accessโ€”itโ€™s about confidence, safety, and staying connected to daily life.
