☀️ Water Safety Starts With You 🌊

The Township of North Kawartha Emergency Services Department is reminding residents and visitors to make water safety a priority as warmer weather arrives and more people head to the lake, pool, or out on the boat this summer.

🦺 Wear a lifejacket or Personal Flotation Device (PFD)
Lifejackets save lives. Whether you are boating, fishing, paddling, or supervising children near water, wearing a properly fitted lifejacket is one of the easiest and most effective ways to stay safe.

🚤 Boating Safety Reminders:
• Always carry a properly stocked marine safety kit. It is the law.
• Check weather conditions before heading out on the water
• Avoid alcohol or drug use while boating
• Ensure everyone on board has access to a lifejacket or PFD

🏊 Swimming and Water Safety:
• Children should always be supervised near water
• Learning to swim is an important life skill at any age
• Never swim alone

A few simple precautions can make all the difference and help ensure everyone enjoys a safe summer on the water.

This , take a few minutes to develop and practice your plan together. It could save lives when seconds truly matter.

Older adults may be at greater risk during home fires due to mobility limitations, sensory impairments, or medical needs.

Families can help reduce this risk by creating a fire escape plan that includes accessibility considerations for the older adults in the household.
