For this month’s team spotlight we’re meeting our Fund Development team!
The Fund Development team works with government partners, foundations, corporations, and individual donors to secure the resources needed to fulfill CUPS’ purpose. The team also connects community minded Calgarians to events, volunteer opportunities, giving opportunities and other ways to get involved in supporting CUPS’ work.

CUPS Calgary
Through integrated programs and services, CUPS, supports Calgarians facing poverty, adversity, and trauma to create lasting change and stability.
CUPS provides integrated support in the areas of Healthcare, Basic Needs & Housing, and Family & Child services to low-income Calgarians living with the adversity of poverty and traumatic events. While our work is rooted in the science of brain development, our passion is helping people effectively address their challenges, build stability and ultimately improve overall wellbeing.

Today, on National Indigenous Peoples Day, we wanted to take the time to highlighting a number of Indigenous-owned businesses in Moh'kinsstis (Calgary) that you can check out. Supporting Indigenous businesses is one meaningful way to amplify Indigenous voices - so please follow, share, visit or make a purchase!
National Indigenous Peoples Day is about recognizing and acknowledging the history, knowledge, and contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples across this land. In the spirit continuous learning, CUPS has been holding space this past month for learning, listening, reflecting and attending events with our staff as we honour and recognize Indigenous History Month and National Indigenous Peoples Day.
We encourage our community to take time to learn about the histories that shape this land (the has a number of great learning resources), support Indigenous businesses and attend one of the many amazing events happening (details in our blog at www.cupscalgary.com/news).

We asked a few of our longest standing employees (some 30 years!) to share a bit about their first week at CUPS!
We’ve grown so much since we were established back in 1989 and it’s fun to look back and hear the stories about how we’ve changed over the years!

Each summer, Dr. Rita Dahlke joins children, caregivers and staff from our Family and Child Development Centre to plant flowers on our rooftop, helping create a welcoming and vibrant space.
Rita has been a valued part of the CUPS community since 2003, serving as both a clinician and Medical Director. Throughout her career, she helped shape and strengthen our approach to care, advancing integrated, community-centred services that continue to make a difference today. Although retired, Rita remains deeply connected to CUPS, generously volunteering her time and giving back to the community she cares so much about.
Thank you, Rita, for your years of dedication and continued support!

For this month's CUPian Spotlight, meet Haley, one of CUPS' Child Development Coordinators!
"Hi! My name is Haley. I am a Child Development Coordinator in the Family and Child Development Centre.
I support families to learn about healthy child development, positive parenting skills, and meeting their basic needs. In this role, I am able to meet families where they’re at.
That means one day I am hanging out at the playground to work on social skills and the next day I’m working 1-on-1 with parents to learn ways to help their toddler reach their development milestones.
I started at CUPS just over 2 years ago right after finishing my bachelors degree. I used to work exclusively with children but wanted to transition to a more holistic family-focused approach.
CUPS model of navigating complexity and creating change is exactly what I was looking for.
My favourite part about working at CUPS is knowing I am making a difference in the community. I am so grateful to watch our families learn and grow. And there’s always so much that children teach me in return!
Outside of CUPS, you can find me outdoors! I do lots of hiking and backpacking in the mountains with my pup - we are always on some sort of adventure."
Thank you Haley for all of the amazing and impactful work that you do!

June is Men’s Health Month and this week marks Men’s Mental Health Week.
Mental health struggles among men are common, yet many men don’t seek support because of the stigma and the underlying cultural expectations that men and boys should carry their struggles silently, push through challenges alone, or hide their emotions.
At CUPS, we know that connection, support, and belonging can make a meaningful difference. By creating spaces where men and boys feel seen, heard, and supported, we can help strengthen well-being and reduce the stigma around asking for help.
If you or someone you care about is struggling, support is available. Call or text 9-8-8 for 24/7, free, confidential su***de crisis support.

This past Friday, CUPS was honoured to join and community members for Blue Jean Jacket Day, a movement started in Edmonton in 2023 that raises awareness for Missing, Murdered, and Exploited Indigenous Men and Boys (MMEIMB).
Held at The Confluence, the gathering brought together Elders, Knowledge Keepers, community partners, and supporters for a morning of learning, reflection, and solidarity. Through a tipi raising, songs, shared stories, and a solidarity walk, we honoured the lives of Indigenous men and boys who have been lost, while recognizing the ongoing work needed to create change.
Thank you to Enviros for organizing this important event and creating space for community to come together in remembrance and action.
We look forward to continuing this movement in the years ahead and hope you’ll join us next year.
