Calgary just gained a powerful boost to its economy: participants in the first Trades Ready Training (TRT) – Commercial Roofing Cohort are now off to their hands-on technical training with the Alberta Roofing Contractors Association (ARCA). Over three intensive weeks, they will learn modern roofing systems and materials, hone the safe use of hand and power tools, and strengthen their knowledge of workplace health and safety — then be ready to plug into Calgary’s construction sector immediately. 🔨🪚
This isn’t just training — it’s workforce development that drives real economic impact. Skilled, job-ready workers mean faster project delivery, fewer labour shortages, more competitive bids for local contractors, and increased local hiring. That translates to more payroll spent in Calgary, higher tax revenues, stronger small-business demand, and a more resilient built environment across the city. 📈💼
Funded by YourAlberta (Government of Alberta), TRT is an employment-focused program designed to help newcomers access careers in Alberta’s skilled trades sector through short-term technical training, industry-recognized safety certifications, employment preparation, and direct connections to employers. A special thank you to our valued partner Alberta Roofing Contractors Association and especially Karen Rutherford and Ron Murphy, for their continued commitment to supporting newcomers and sharing their industry expertise with the next generation of roofing professionals. 👷♀️🏅

June is Refugee Awareness month. The UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, released data in June of 2025 that stated globally 1 in every 67 individuals — over 122 million people — are forcibly displaced. Were this a population of a country it would be the world's 12 largest.
From April 1, 2023 to December 2025, CFN has helped more than 10,000 refugees.

Today, on , we stand in solidarity with the millions who have been forced to flee their homes in search of safety, dignity, and hope. The UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency , released data in June 2025 that stated over 122 million people — one in every 67 individuals — are forcibly displaced. This number has doubled in the last 10 years. Every time there is a worldwide crisis, we see people arriving in Calgary with hope in their back pocket. Seeking safety is a human right. For everyone. Everywhere.
From April 1, 2023, to December 2025, CFN has helped more than 10,000 refugees.
