❤️ Community is strongest when everyone belongs.
Today, we wore red to celebrate Red Shirt Day and recognize the importance of accessibility and inclusion in our everyday lives. Together, we're building a community where differences are embraced, barriers are reduced, and everyone has the chance to connect, contribute, and thrive.
Thank you to everyone who joined us in wearing red and showing their support for a more inclusive world.

National AccessAbility Week kick-off celebration on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 was a wonderful event filled with community spirit, connection, and celebration. We were honoured to have Jeromy Farkas officially proclaim National AccessAbility Week and join us for the raising of the Disability Pride Flag — a meaningful symbol of inclusion, visibility, and pride.
We’re also excited to see Vantage’s own Mackenzie P. and Benjamin B. featured on the photo above and on the Mayor’s LinkedIn page following the event!
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the celebration so special, including our wonderful emcee, Mary S.
As we welcome National AccessAbility Week, let’s keep working together to remove barriers, celebrate inclusion, and build a more accessible community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Community Disability Professionals Appreciation Week! 🎉

MEDIA ADVISORY, for immediate release:
Community Disability Services Professional Appreciation Week May 18-24, 2026
In 2024, Alberta has permanently designated the third week of May as Community Disability Services Professional Appreciation Week, following a declaration by the province’s Ministry.
This year, from May 18–24, 2026, communities across Alberta will recognize the essential work of Community Disability Services Professionals, whose expertise and dedication support Albertans with disabilities and help build inclusive communities.
The Alberta Disability Workers Association (ADWA) continues to recognize the Minister’s permanent declaration as an important step toward acknowledging the professionalism, skill, and impact of the workforce, while emphasizing the need for continued progress and long-term investment in the sector.
More than a dozen municipalities across Alberta — including Onoway, Elk Point, Brooks, Camrose, Red Deer, Cold Lake, Grande Prairie, Lethbridge, Airdrie, Calgary, and Edmonton — have already joined the recognition effort by passing proclamations, illuminating City Halls and local landmarks such as the Medicine Hat’s Saamis Teepee, and issuing official letters of recognition, with more communities expected to take part in the week ahead.
Direct support workers say the week helps staff feel valued and respected, boosting morale, encouraging initiative, and strengthening team effectiveness.
The annual recognition also highlights the importance of standardized competencies, professional development, and sustained support for those delivering person‑centred care across Alberta. ADWA welcomes the annual recognition to honour a skilled workforce essential to building inclusive communities. Strength from within, power from professionalism
Every day, across Alberta, Disability Service Professionals deliver high-quality, person-centered support to people with disabilities—building inclusive communities through their dedication, professionalism, and heart.
