On Saturday, we were thrilled to attend the Spruce Meadows ‘National’ Tournament and Annual First Responder Weekend in Calgary. The event provided a wonderful opportunity to connect with our community, engage with our first responder partners who help save lives, and recognize those who make who make it possible for us to provide critical care, anywhere.
Thanks to the generosity and longstanding support of donors like Cenovus, we are able to participate in meaningful community events like this. Since 2006, their continued commitment has helped ensure that thousands of patients across the Prairies receive the critical care they need most. STARS was grateful for the opportunity to be part of this important community event and to share more about the impact we make together.
Thank you, Cenovus, for making this life-saving work possible.

Yesterday, five STARS teams across all three provinces made their way to the Genesee Generation Station located west of Edmonton, Alberta, to compete in this year's ALL STARS Simulation Competition, hosted by Capital Power.
The teams were confronted with a challenging and chaotic scenario after an industrial explosion left four patients in its wake. Each competitor put everything on the line while demonstrating the standard of care we strive for every day at STARS. This year's winners are flight paramedic Chris Fay and flight nurse Kevin Easton, from the Regina base. Please join us in congratulating Chris and Kevin!👏
Thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible including our actors, volunteers, judges, the Canadian Armed Forces, Leduc EMS and Fire. Finally, thank you to our generous host, Capital Power. Their support in planning and providing the location site for our teams to compete and train helps shape the future of critical care in our communities. Thank you! ❤️

Innovation at STARS took centre stage this past weekend as our President & CEO, Dr. John Froh, joined the Inspiring Speakers Series during the Innovation Showcase for MindFuel’s Tech Futures Challenge 2026.
The event brought together youth innovators and leaders in technology, science, entrepreneurship, leadership, and impact, all with a focus on turning new ideas into real-world solutions.
During the event, Dr. Froh spoke about how machine learning and AI are being explored at STARS to enhance clinical practice.
His presentation highlighted CEWS, or Continuous Early Warning Score, a model being developed by STARS through a partnership with the University of Calgary's Cu***ng School of Medicine and the Schulich School of Engineering to provide real-time deterioration prediction for prehospital trauma patients. He also spoke about a working prototype of an AI tool designed to support charting efficiency and allow more time and attention to remain focused on the patient during a mission.
We are proud to see this work advancing and excited to continue exploring tools that can help STARS provide the very best in critical care.

Last night, STARS team members and guests celebrated the annual "A Night with STARS" gala at the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada in Winnipeg and raised $175,000. Among those gathered, we were honoured to host the Hon. Uzoma Asagwara, Minister of Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care, representing the Government of Manitoba.
STARS is incredibly grateful for the unwavering support from our donors, our sponsors and our Manitoban community. The funds raised will further our mission to deliver critical care, anywhere across Manitoba. Thank you for your generosity. ❤️

Yesterday, 12 students were celebrated at the newly named Werklund STARS Academy for Critical Care Transport Medicine Education, a 21-week certificate program delivered by STARS in partnership with the University of Calgary’s Continuing Medical Education department.
STARS is deeply grateful for an incredible $3 million transformational gift made by Dave Werklund, which will help us be there when patients need us most for generations to come.
We are proud to name the Academy in his honour, reflecting the role his generosity plays in the future of critical care excellence.
