๐ŸŒŸ Celebrate Neighbour Day with Sherbrooke Community League โ€“ June 20! ๐ŸŒŸ

Neighbour Day is a wonderful opportunity to connect with the people who make our community such a special place. Building strong neighbourhood connections helps create a vibrant, welcoming, and resilient community for everyone.

Here are five great reasons to connect with your neighbours:

๐Ÿก Build a sense of belonging
Connected neighbourhoods help residents feel welcome, included, and part of something bigger.

๐Ÿค Create a safer community
When neighbours know and support one another, everyone feels more comfortable and secure.

๐Ÿ’™ Encourage community involvement
Strong connections inspire residents to participate, share ideas, and help make the neighbourhood even better.

๐ŸŒ Celebrate our diversity
Neighbourhood connections bring together people from different backgrounds and experiences, strengthening our community.

๐Ÿ‘‹ Small gestures make a big difference
A friendly conversation, a helping hand, or checking in on a neighbour can help build lasting relationships.

Join us on June 20 as we celebrate Neighbour Day and the connections that make Sherbrooke a great place to live. Together, we can continue building a stronger, more connected community!

Getting active at our west-side basketball courts just got even easier!

We're excited to be home to one of the City of Edmonton's new self-service sports equipment lending stations. Thanks to a partnership between the City of Edmonton, Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, and Equip Sport, community members can now borrow basketballs for FREE right at the courts.

Here's how it works:

1๏ธโƒฃ Download the free Equip Sport app.
2๏ธโƒฃ Visit the equipment locker located beside the west-side basketball courts.
3๏ธโƒฃ Use the app to locate the locker and scan to unlock a basketball.
4๏ธโƒฃ Enjoy your game!
5๏ธโƒฃ Return the basketball when you're finished so others can enjoy it too.

Whether you're shooting hoops with friends, teaching your kids the game, or just looking for a reason to get outside and be active, the equipment locker makes it easier than ever to get started.

๐ŸซŽ A Wild Day in Sherbrooke! ๐ŸซŽ

Today, two moose wandered into Sherbrooke from the direction of Inglewood, likely making their way up from the River Valley.

Along the way, they helped themselves to a buffet of local apple trees, shrubs, and other tasty snacks before finding themselves in a fenced lot where they became trapped.

Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, Sherbrooke volunteers stepped up to help manage the growing crowds and vehicle traffic while authorities worked to safely resolve the situation. Volunteers remained on site for several hours, working alongside members of the Edmonton Police Service, Animal Control, and Alberta Wildlife to help guide the moose safely out of the neighbourhood and back toward greener pastures.

This is exactly the kind of community spirit that makes Sherbrooke such an amazing place to live. When something unexpected happens, neighbours step up to help.

A special thank you to Shannon Koreman for staying on site throughout the entire event and helping coordinate efforts, and to Graeme Benoit for providing support during the response.

We're happy to report that the moose were safely assisted and are hopefully enjoying a much less eventful evening than the rest of us!

Thank you to everyone who helped keep people safe and gave wildlife the space they needed during today's adventure. ๐ŸซŽ๐Ÿ’š
