Not every high-speed story ends in a safe outcome, but this one did thanks to EPS.

On Anthony Henday Drive near Yellowhead Trail, a driver was clocked at 161 km/h in a 100 zone, speeding past two unmarked police cars.

Even Supergirl knows when to slow it down. This is not a flight path for high-speed moves, and you will not outrun enforcement.

The driver was stopped and issued a ticket with mandatory court.

Save the super speed for the movies. Slow down and help keep everyone safe.

The funeral of Toronto Police Service Constable Marc Pinizzotto was a sobering reminder of the risks police officers face every day.

In recent weeks, several officers across Canada have been killed or seriously injured.

“This is not part of the job,” says Chief Warren Driechel, who attended the funeral along with other members of the Edmonton Police Service. “The difference is intent, targeted violence against those sworn to protect. We cannot normalize this.

“Violence against police is violence against our communities. It reflects a growing disregard for the rule of law and for one another.

“It’s time for leaders at every level to be clear: this must stop. Every citizen deserves a safe community, and every police officer deserves to go home safe.”

a suspect and locate a witness in connection with a recent robbery.

Today we remember Constable Ezio Faraone who died in the line of duty on June 25, 1990. Cst. Faraone detected a vehicle used by two suspects fleeing an armed robbery in an alleyway. While approaching the vehicle, he observed only one suspect with the vehicle. With his attention focused towards this suspect, a second suspect hidden from view in the backseat, exited the vehicle and shot Cst. Faraone. We will always remember the sacrifice he made for his community.

Police issue 668 traffic violations during "Operation 24 Hours" 06/24/2026

Police issue 668 traffic violations during "Operation 24 Hours": Edmonton Police Service (EPS) officers and City of Edmonton automated enforcement recorded a total of 668 traffic violations during the most recent Operation 24 Hours.

The violations were issued over a 24-hour period throughout Thursday, June 18, 2026. Of the total traffic violations:

* 182 were for speeding

* 14 were for distracted driving

* 84 were hazardous moving violations

* 263 were non-hazardous Traffic Safety Act infractions (e.g. equipment or document related)

* 104 were automated red-light violations

In addition, 10 criminal code driving charges and 11 other criminal code charges were laid as a result of vehicle stops during this time.

One vehicle was recorded by West Branch patrol officers doing 154 km/h in an 80 km/h zone at 156 Street and Whitemud Drive. The operator was issued a mandatory court summons, and a 24-hour license suspension was issued due to suspected drug impairment.

Additionally, Major Collision Investigations Section (MCIS) members conducted enforcement in multiple playground zones where children were present and issued 21 speeding tickets.

“High speeds continue to be an issue across the city,” says Staff Sergeant Mike Wasylyshen, Specialized Traffic Section. “Drivers are reminded that although the school year is coming to an end, children will continue to enjoy our parks and playgrounds over the warm summer months. Playground and school zone speeds limits are in place for this reason and remain in effect year-round.”

Patrol officers also arrested two males following traffic stops during proactive patrols.

At approximately 12:45 a.m., West Branch officers observed a black truck travelling at a high rate of speed in the area of 156 Street and 111 Avenue. Officers initiated a traffic stop and the driver fled, reaching speeds of up to 140 km/h. Police did not pursue, but located the vehicle again a short time later, monitoring it covertly as it continued to be driven dangerously. The truck eventually stopped on Manning Drive and the driver was arrested. Officers then determined the male was a suspended driver, and the license plate and truck were stolen. Charges are pending,

A couple of hours later, at 2:20 a.m., Northwest Branch officers on proactive patrol noted another truck being driven erratically in the area of 214 Street and 115 Avenue. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver failed to produce insurance. Officers noticed ammunition in the vehicle and noted the driver was bound by conditions prohibiting the possession of weapons. He was arrested shortly after advising police of an unsecured shot gun in the vehicle.

The EPS is reminding drivers that dangerous driving isn’t just illegal, it’s deadly. For local stories, data, and resources about traffic fatalities and injury collisions, visit DeadSeriousYEG.com.

Operation 24 Hours is one of several joint enforcement campaigns conducted year-round by the EPS and the City of Edmonton to reduce high-risk behaviours and improve road safety.

The Edmonton Police Service has laid charges in relation to assaults on an Edmonton man who was reported missing in early 2003. Officers continue to seek information in the suspicious disappearance of Gerald Geake. If you have any information, please contact EPS at 780-423-4567

Police lay charges in 2002 assault of missing person Gerald Geake: The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has charged a 54-year-old man in relation to assaults on an Edmonton man who was reported missing in early 2003.

On Tuesday, June 23, 2026, police formally charged Kevin Wade Moroz, 54, of Two Hills County, Alberta with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon. The charges relate to assaults on Gerald Geake which happened from April to May of 2002. Kevin and Gerald were known to one another.

Gerald Geake, was reported missing to EPS in spring 2003 after friends realized he had not been heard from him since May 2002. He would have been 37 years old at the time of his disappearance.

Investigators have determined that Gerald was assaulted in a south Edmonton residence immediately before he was last seen. He is believed to have left the residence with Mr. Moroz and another individual. He has not been seen or heard from since.

Investigative efforts have been unable to gain information on Gerald's location, and his disappearance is being treated as suspicious. Detectives are asking for the public's assistance in providing any information that may assist with the investigation.

In 2002, Mr. Moroz was driving a black 1992 GMC Sierra similar to the one pictured and may have been driving this vehicle in the Avonmore neighbourhood around the time of Gerald’s disappearance.

1992 GMC Sierra

Gerald was 5’10” and approximately 160 lbs at the time of his disappearance. He had a mullet style blonde hair cut and blue eyes and he may have appeared injured or incapacitated to anyone who saw him.

Missing person: Gerald Geake, 37

“Although considerable time has passed, we’re hopeful someone may have information about Gerald’s activities after leaving the residence,” says Detective Bryan Kincheloe with the EPS Historical Crimes Section. “Even the smallest, seemingly insignificant memory may assist our investigation, and we encourage them to come forward.”

Police are asking anyone with information about Gerald’s disappearance to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone.

Serving and protecting…and occasionally getting wet!

EPS Southwest Division members made a big splash at St. John XXIII School. Students bought tickets to spray the officers with Super Soakers for two hours!

The officers showed up ready…but didn’t leave dry!

It was all for a water-ful cause! The school is raising much-needed funds for students in Burundi, Africa.

Strong community connection, big impact. We are proud to be part of moments like this.

Recently, the Edmonton Police Service hosted facilitators from public safety agencies across Canada and the United States for our Critical Incident Reintegration Course.

This program trains facilitators to support all public safety personnel and health care workers as they return to and remain in the workplace after critical incidents, injury, or operational stress.

Seeing agencies from across the continent come together to invest in this kind of support for their people is exactly why this work matters - and exactly why we keep improving on it.
