Applications open soon: The Student Rental Supplement Program reopens on July 6, 2026!

Eligible Métis students in Alberta can apply for rental assistance to help with monthly rent and security deposit costs while they focus on their post-secondary studies.

Today, on the summer solstice, we continue our National Indigenous History Month series by celebrating the rich histories, cultures, languages, stories and contributions of Métis, First Nations and Inuit Peoples.

As a Métis organization, we are especially proud to celebrate Métis culture, community and the continued presence of the Métis Nation across the Homeland.

We also honour the many Indigenous communities, traditions, languages and stories that continue to shape this land.

Our National Indigenous History Month series continues with traditional Métis plant knowledge.

For generations, Métis plant knowledge and healing practices have been rooted in relationships with the land, family and community.

Traditional Métis healing is holistic, supporting mental, emotional, physical and spiritual well-being. Plant medicines were often gathered from the local environment, prepared as teas, poultices, salves or tinctures, and stored in the home for family and community care.

Traditionally, Métis women often served as healers and midwives, with knowledge passed down through mothers, grandmothers and respected Elders. Today, Métis healing knowledge continues to reflect deep connections to land, culture and intergenerational teaching.

The information shared here is intended for cultural and historical education. Traditional medicines should be learned and used under the guidance of a Knowledge Keeper or Elder.
