What does the power of public art look like in Edmonton?

The City of Edmonton Public Art Collection inspires Edmontonians every day, when moving through parks and transit stations to work and play, or when they visit their community libraries and rec centres. Public art connects us to what makes our city unique - our local people, places and stories.

By investing in public art, the City of Edmonton supports the local economy and helps build an attractive, healthy, and thriving city where creative spaces emerge and art, design and culture flourish 🏙️

Explore all that there is to offer by visiting an artwork in your community or by keeping a close eye out on your daily commute this spring and summer 👀

The Canada Council for the Arts | Conseil des arts du Canada is announcing the creation of the Alberta Focus Fund—a $25 million investment over five years—to help artists and arts organizations across Alberta access the support they need to create, collaborate and connect with audiences, to the benefit of communities across the province.

The investment responds to what artists and organizations across Alberta have been expressing: there is tremendous creativity and potential in the province and, with additional support, even more of it can be realized and shared.

What do we gain when we support the arts as a city? Substantial socio-economic benefits, for one.

According to the Canadian Chamber of Commerce's 2025 Artworks Report, the arts drive socio-economic outcomes in cities:
✔️ Vibrant arts communities are magnets for skilled workers.
✔️ Participation in arts and cultural life accelerates newcomers’ sense of belonging and civic connection.

That's not all, EAC research shows:
✔️ Arts organizations generate over $171 million dollars of economic activity annually in Edmonton.
✔️ 79% of Edmontonians say that the arts are important to quality of life.

As Lorris puts it, "The arts contribute in so many ways, economically, culturally and by boosting community spirit. Edmonton is one of the most culturally rich cities in Canada, and we should be proud and grateful for that." Thank you to Lorris and over 115 others who have filled out our form ( https://forms.cloud.microsoft/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=Gv2UTuu2-U6eAei5HVrOAbjUpf61tzRMjbiZJQ9H--JUOFBQRzdSV0VBTUJPVjhaM1M4TExMUldZUi4u ) so far about why the arts matter to them. Join the conversation at or in the comments below.

Other ways you can make a difference:
✔️ Email the mayor or your city councillor with your arts story.
✔️ Support local artists and organizations by attending local arts events and markets (and bring a friend who hasn't been before!)
