Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day!

This day is an opportunity to celebrate the histories, cultures, languages, and vibrancy of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

At Boyle Street, Indigenous ways of knowing and being help guide who we are and how we work together toward miyo-pimâtisiwin – the good life. National Indigenous Peoples Day is a time for celebration, but also a reminder of our responsibilities as Treaty people to build relationships grounded in respect, reciprocity, and care for one another, the land, the animals, the plants, and the waters.

This past Friday, community members gathered at okimaw peyesew kamik to celebrate with drummers, dancing, face paintings, teachings, and a BBQ. Thank you to everyone who came!

Happy National Indigenous Peoples Day!

The language we use shapes what we notice, what we value, and how we understand our relationships to one another and ourselves.

In our latest blog, we reflect on the role language plays in identity, belonging, and connection, and why Indigenous languages are an important part of creating pathways to miyo-pimâtisiwin - the good life.

At Boyle Street, we use a harm reduction approach in all our programs and services. One of the most impactful steps you can take to help your community is to learn about the effects of drug poisoning and get hands-on training on how to administer naloxone.

We have two upcoming naloxone training sessions. To register for this interactive training, click the links below.

We had a great time last week at our Annual Pride celebration!

Thank you to everyone who came and celebrated with us! We had drag performances, ice cream from Kind Ice Cream, and airbrush tattoos from BEYOND Face Painting.

We were also joined by tables from Pride Centre of Edmonton and HIV Edmonton as well as our own program Streetworks Edmonton.

Thank you to ATB Financial for sponsoring the event and for volunteering. ATB has sponsored our Pride event each year, and we’re very grateful for their support.

And we also want to thank our volunteers and staff who helped run the event!

Happy Pride, everyone!

Happy Pride Month!

Pride is a celebration of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and a reminder of the importance of creating communities where people feel safe, affirmed, and supported. We know that building a more inclusive world is an ongoing effort that requires all of us.

To our 2SLGBTQIA+ staff, volunteers, community members, partners, and friends: we see you and we celebrate you as you are.

Happy Pride!
