Today, the Otipemisiwak Métis Government remembers the 18th Anniversary of the Formal Apology delivered on June 11, 2008, to residential school Survivors and Indigenous Peoples across Canada.
Delivered in the House of Commons in the presence of Survivors and national Indigenous leadership, the apology acknowledged Canada’s role in the harm caused by the residential school system and its lasting impacts on Indigenous children, families, and communities, including Métis Survivors whose experiences were too often overlooked.
We honour the strength and resilience of Survivors and reaffirm the ongoing need for truth, healing, and reconciliation.
Reconciliation requires more than remembrance; it demands continued commitment and meaningful change.
