Every older adult has a story, and every face reflects a lifetime of experiences, contributions, and connections that help shape our community.

As we begin planning the 2027 Directory of Senior Services, Sage invites older adults from diverse backgrounds, cultures, identities, abilities, and life experiences to participate in our Sage Faces Photo Project. Selected photographs may be featured on the cover of the 2027 Directory, a trusted resource used by thousands of seniors, families, caregivers, and service providers each year.

Through this project, we aim to celebrate the rich diversity of Edmonton’s older adult population and increase the visibility of seniors in all their individuality, strength, and vitality.

Please note: Taste of Edmonton has started now on Churchill Square across the street from Sage. While this offers another reason to venture downtown and visit Sage there are some transit and road adjustments as a result.

Yesterday, on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, community members gathered at Sage to learn about breaking isolation, preventing abuse, challenging ageism, and the role we all play in creating safer, more respectful communities for older adults.

One of the strongest messages of the day was the power of connection. Meaningful relationships, supportive communities, and opportunities to stay engaged can help reduce isolation and strengthen the well-being and safety of older adults.

We were also pleased to highlight the Sage Seniors Safe House, which provides temporary safety, support, and hope for older adults experiencing abuse. By continuing these conversations and increasing awareness, we can all help build a community where older adults are valued, respected, and able to live free from abuse.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped keep this important conversation growing.

Pride, joy, and a strong sense of belonging filled Sage yesterday at our Aging with Pride Strawberry Tea.

As we celebrate Pride Month, we recognize the contributions, resilience, and lived experiences of LGBTQ2S+ older adults in our community. The Strawberry Tea was an opportunity to come together in friendship and celebration, and to affirm that everyone deserves to age with dignity, respect, and connection.

At Sage, we are proud to be an inclusive and welcoming space—not only during Pride Month, but throughout the year. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the afternoon so special including Northern Heart (music), Ladonna Cree (drag), and of course, Aging with Pride.

Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and supported.
For some older adults, abuse can make remaining at home unsafe. When that happens, knowing where to turn can be life-changing.
The Sage Seniors' Safe House provides temporary, emergency accommodation for adults aged 60+ who need a safe place to stay while exploring their options and accessing support. No one should have to face abuse alone.
On World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (June 15), we encourage everyone to learn about the resources available in our community—for yourself, a family member, a friend, or a neighbour.
Help is available. Support is available. Safety is possible.

Starting a conversation can be one of the most powerful ways to support an older adult who may be experiencing abuse or mistreatment.

You don't need to have all the answers. What matters most is approaching the conversation with care, respect, and a willingness to listen.

If something doesn't seem right, trust your instincts. A simple expression of concern can open the door for someone to share what they're experiencing. By listening without judgment, offering support, and helping connect them with trusted resources, you can make a meaningful difference.

The signs of elder abuse can be physical, emotional, social, or financial, and they are not always easy to recognize. Changes in behaviour, unexplained injuries, fearfulness, withdrawal from activities, missed appointments, or sudden financial difficulties may all be indicators that something is wrong.

Recognizing the signs is an important first step in preventing abuse and supporting older adults in our community.
