Today, the Confederacy of Treaty No. 6 First Nations celebrates the strength, resilience, cultures, languages, and contributions of Indigenous Peoples across Turtle Island.
This year also marks 150 years since the making of Treaty No. 6 - a significant milestone and a reminder that Treaty is not just part of our history, it is a living agreement that continues to shape our shared future.
National Indigenous Peoples Day is a time to celebrate who we are, honour the knowledge and teachings passed down by our Elders and ancestors, and recognize the many ways Indigenous Peoples continue to strengthen our communities.
It is also a reminder that learning matters. Understanding the true history of Indigenous Peoples and the Treaty relationship is an important step toward building respect, challenging misconceptions, and advancing reconciliation.
If you're looking to learn more, we encourage you to explore the University of Alberta's free online Indigenous Canada course. It offers a valuable introduction to Indigenous histories, cultures, worldviews, and the enduring importance of Treaties.

We honour our ancestors, our Elders, our Knowledge Keepers, our youth, and all those who continue to carry our languages, cultures, and traditions forward. May we continue to honour the spirit and intent of Treaty - for as long as the sun shines, the grass grows, and the rivers flow.
Happy National Indigenous Peoples Day!

The Grand Chief also extended an invitation to the Ministers to join Treaty No. 6 in August 2026 as we commemorate the 150th anniversary of Treaty No. 6.

Rally for Treaty Rights and Unity | Wear Red | Free Event | Everyone Welcome
The Blackfoot Confederacy Chiefs Society is calling on Blackfoot Confederacy members, Treaty Nations, allies, and the public to join a Rally for Treaty Rights and Unity on Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at The Confluence (Former Fort Calgary).
The rally comes at a time when discussions surrounding Alberta's future and potential separation are taking place across the province. For First Nations, these conversations cannot occur without recognition of the Treaties that form the foundation of the relationship between First Nations, the Crown, and all who live on these lands.
Hosted by the Blackfoot Confederacy Chiefs Society, the rally will bring together leadership from the Blackfoot Confederacy, Treaty 6 Nations, and Treaty 8 Nations to reaffirm the importance of Treaty rights, Treaty relationships, and the continued recognition of First Nations as rights holders and partners in the future of this region.
The event will serve as a public demonstration of unity among First Nations and those who support the spirit and intent of Treaty. Speakers will share perspectives on the significance of Treaty, the responsibilities that come with these agreements, and the importance of ensuring First Nations voices remain central in discussions that impact their lands, peoples, and future generations.
The Blackfoot Confederacy Chiefs Society encourages attendees to wear red as a visible show of support and solidarity.
This rally is an opportunity for people from all backgrounds to stand together in support of Treaty, respect, and Nation-to-Nation relationships. It is a chance to send a clear message that Treaty rights matter, First Nations voices matter, and that unity remains stronger than division.
All are welcome to attend.
