Interested in local military history? The RCR Museum's upcoming "Fascinating Redcoats" exhibition will be right up your alley!

The exhibition traces the origins and evolution of the Infantry School building – now known as “A” Block at Wolseley Barracks– on lands once part of Treaty 6 of 1792. Through archival maps, architectural drawings, photographs, and other artefacts, Fascinating Redcoats reveals how the arrival of “D” Company of the Infantry School Corps transformed the local landscape, economy, and community life.

Visitors will be introduced to stories of the soldiers and their families who lived and worked at the barracks. Households, offices, and entertainment were part of the architectural design. The exhibition also highlights the building’s distinctive features and construction, overseen by the Public Works Department in Ottawa, and executed by local businesses.

As we continue to modernize and prepare for the future, we remain mindful of the legacy that came before us. Understanding our history helps us appreciate the generations of soldiers who served before us and the foundations they built.

L’exposition retrace les origines et l’évolution du bâtiment de l’École d’infanterie – aujourd’hui connu sous le nom d’immeuble «A» à la caserne de Wolseley – sur des terres faisant autrefois partie du Traité 6 de 1792. À travers des cartes d’archives, des dessins architecturaux, des photos et d’autres artéfacts, Captivantes Redcoats révèle comment l’arrivée de la compagnie «D» de l’École du corps d’infanterie a transformé le paysage local, l’économie et la vie communautaire.

Les visiteurs découvriront les histoires des soldats et de leurs familles qui ont vécu et travaillé dans les casernes. Les logements, les bureaux et les divertissements faisaient partie de la conception architecturale. L’exposition met également en lumière les caractéristiques distinctives du bâtiment et de sa construction, supervisée par le ministère des Travaux publics à Ottawa et réalisée par des entreprises locales.

Alors que nous continuons à nous moderniser et à préparer l’avenir, nous restons conscients de l’héritage qui nous a précédé. Comprendre notre histoire nous aide à apprécier les générations de soldats qui ont servi avant nous et les fondations qu’ils ont bâties.

On Sunday, May 31st 2026, the Lincoln and Welland Regiment and the Royal Highland Fusiliers of Canada underwent a change of command ceremony celebrating the formation of a new tactical grouping between the two units, as well as the appointment of LCol Robinson as tactical group commanding officer, and the appointment of tactical group Regimental Sergeant Major CWO Feletar.

Tactical Groupings are a result of Canadian Army modernization initiatives to increase operational effectiveness. Although operationally combined, the regiments will maintain their distinct, proud histories, uniforms and ceremonial traditions.

Le dimanche 31 mai 2026, le Lincoln and Welland Regiment et les Royal Highland Fusiliers du Canada ont subi une cérémonie de changement de commandement célébrant la formation d'un nouveau groupement tactique entre les deux unités, ainsi que la nomination du colonel Robinson comme commandant du groupe tactique et la nomination du groupe tactique du sergent- du régiment-major CWO Feletar.

Les regroupements tactiques sont le résultat des initiatives de modernisation de l'armée canadienne visant à accroître l'efficacité opérationnelle. Bien qu'opérationnellement combinés, les régiments maintiendront leurs histoires distinctes et fières, leurs uniformes et leurs traditions cérémonielles.
