CMA leads a national movement with physicians who believe in a better future of health. Let's treat everyone with respect.

Our ambition is a sustainable, accessible health system where patients are partners, a culture of medicine that elevates equity, diversity and wellbeing, and supportive communities where everyone has the chance to be healthy. RULES OF ENGAGEMENT:
Be Kind and Courteous: We're all in this together to create a welcoming environment. Healthy debates are natural, but kindness is required. No Hate Spee

CMA takes next step in fight for doctors and patients at Supreme Court of Canada 06/23/2026

Health care is a human right, and it must be protected from political interference.

Recently, the Canadian Medical Association was granted permission to intervene in a critical Supreme Court of Canada case to defend the doctor-patient relationship. We are arguing that governments cannot invoke the notwithstanding clause to shield their policies from legal scrutiny, especially when those policies threaten health and safety.

The CMA stands with Canada's physicians and patients to uphold evidence-based care, professional autonomy and the fundamental rights of all Canadians – especially the most vulnerable.

Indigenous Peoples have been the stewards of the land, water and resources that we share today for generations. Their cultures, languages and traditions have helped shape our nation. That’s why today is a day to recognize and reflect as we look to a brighter, more inclusive future.

The legacy of colonialism and systemic racism in Canada continues to harm the health of Indigenous Peoples, who face a dire lack of access to care. We support Indigenous partners in their advocacy for clean water and sustainable health care.

On behalf of Canada’s doctors, we continue our reconciliation journey, acknowledging hard truths, rebuilding trust and taking the steps necessary to fulfill our promise to transform the health system to provide culturally safe, trauma-informed care for Indigenous Peoples.

Health Advocacy 06/11/2026

Having access to your own health records isn’t only a basic human right – it should be seamless. But currently in Canada, less than half (47%) of Canadians access their own health data online. As a result, medical tests get duplicated, diagnoses are delayed, and patients are often left filling information gaps that the health system should have been able to handle.

That’s why the CMA is calling on the federal government to pass Bill S-5, the for Canadians Act, and we’re asking for your support by writing a letter to your local MP.

This legislation would not only prohibit practices that lock patient information in systems that can’t communicate with each other – it would also set standards for how health information should be shared across the country.

The giants of tech and online media have been mining profit from the attention of Canadian kids for far too long. That’s why the Canadian Medical Association supports the introduction of the Safe Social Media Act.

This legislation makes Canada a global leader in digital safety and ensures Canadians, especially young people, are protected online and out of harm’s way.

We call on all federal parties to act quickly to move this legislation through parliament and help protect our most vulnerable young Canadians from the greed and profit motives of Big Tech.

CMA applauds passage of bill to protect informed patient consent 06/08/2026

The CMA applauds the passage in Parliament of Bill S-228, an Act to amend the Criminal Code (sterilization procedures).

Patients must be able to make their own decisions about their care, free from any pressure or coercion. We stand with survivors of forced and coerced sterilizations and are committed to continuing our work in partnership with Indigenous People to put our reconciliation commitments into practice.

We thank Senator Yvonne Boyer, Members of Parliament, Senators and the many experts and community leaders who contributed evidence throughout the legislative process.
