Yesterday, Montreal lost two lives in a senseless act of violence.

We mourn Michael (Michel) Mizrahi z"l, a beloved member of the Jewish community in Montreal, and Const. Mohamed Lamine Benredouane, who gave his life protecting ours. May their memories be a blessing. Our hearts are with their families. 🕯️

Researchers at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and Stanford have uncovered a biological game-changer: a type of immune cell that destroys threats through rapid, controlled self-destruction. Called raptoblasts, these cells respond to hormonal signals by rupturing in a tightly regulated way, releasing powerful toxic compounds that can eliminate nearby pathogens or cancer cells within minutes. A single raptoblast can destroy up to seventy surrounding cells.

The discovery, published in Cell, emerged from collaboration between Israeli and U.S. scientists studying immune responses in everything from bacteria to flatworms to human cancer cells. The findings suggest an entirely new strategy for engineering cellular therapies - one that mimics nature's own rapid-response immune mechanism and could revolutionize how we treat cancer and support tissue regeneration.
