This Pride Month, we're celebrating the 2SLGBTQ+ nurses who are part of our profession — and the nurses who champion inclusive, culturally safe care for 2SLGBTQ+ patients and communities.

Nursing has always been shaped by the people who practice it. The courage, resilience and lived experience of 2SLGBTQ+ nurses have strengthened the profession. And every nurse who works to create safe, affirming care experiences makes a difference.

CNO's Code of Conduct supports nurses in providing care that respects every patient's identity and lived experience. See how you can create safer care experiences for 2SLGBTQ+ patients: https://www.cno.org/news/how-to-create-safer-health-care-experiences-for-2slgbtq-patients

🤔 Will RN prescribing in Ontario replace Nurse Practitioners or physicians? No, it won't!

NPs and physicians can diagnose and manage complex conditions, order tests and prescribe broadly. In comparison, RNs with prescribing authority work within a defined medication list for non-complex conditions in specific settings.

Get to know Jean Cuthand Goodwill, a trailblazing Cree nurse and Indigenous health advocate from Little Pine First Nation.

The first Indigenous graduate of a nursing program in Saskatchewan, Goodwill completed her studies at the Holy Family Hospital in 1954 — a journey shaped by three years spent as a tuberculosis patient.

Goodwill later co-founded and served as president for the CINA: Canadian Indigenous Nurses Association. She also worked directly with the Canadian government as a special advisor.

Fun fact: during her time as a head nurse in rural Saskatchewan, she responded to emergencies via bush plane or dog team.

Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day, coinciding with the longest day of the year — the summer solstice. For many Indigenous peoples, this is a time for celebration, community and connection.

From attending a local ceremony to exploring online resources, there are many ways to take part and celebrate the histories, cultures and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples across Canada.

Happy Indigenous Peoples Day!
