What an incredible team we have and we could not be more proud!

Today, we came together as a village to share a delicious meal and celebrate our staff during our Healthcare Heroes Lunch. Our very own President and CEO, Wendy Beckles and fellow staff members volunteered to personally serve our team because that is the kind of committed, people-first culture we have built together.

To our Healthcare Heroes, your hard work, dedication and heart do not go unnoticed. You show up every single day and that is something we never take for granted.

This week we unveiled our butterfly mural, and it was simply beautiful🦋

Residents and staff tried on VR goggles, colouring pages came out, and then there was the smile of one of our residents, a 100 year old, seeing it all for the first time. That smile said everything.

The mural was designed with everyone in mind, with butterfly wings positioned to make sure residents using wheelchairs and walkers can take photos comfortably alongside their loved ones. Every detail was thought through, and it showed.

This is what the Butterfly Model looks like in practice. Not just a philosophy but a feeling, a moment, a smile you carry home with you.

What a day. The kind where the weather feels like it was ordered specifically for the occasion, the conversation never stops, and before you know it, you are looking around thinking, "we have to do this again next year."

That was our 31st Annual Charity Golf Tournament, and thanks to every golfer, sponsor, and supporter who came out, we raised over $100,000 to support the seniors in our care. That means better programming, better day-to-day experiences, and continued investment in our Butterfly Model, an approach to care that is changing the way our residents live, not just where they live.

To our sponsors, your generosity made this possible. To every golfer who teed up for our seniors, thank you. You showed up, and it showed.

June is Seniors Month💜

A time set aside to honour, appreciate, and celebrate the seniors who have shaped our communities and our lives. At Shepherd Village, this month holds a special place in our hearts. Loving and caring for our seniors is not just what we do. It is who we are.

What a celebration!

We had the absolute honour of celebrating 14 remarkable seniors aged 95 and above, including 2 incredible centenarians, whose lives, stories, and wisdom fill our community with so much joy and inspiration.

We were thrilled to welcome MPP Aris Babikian and Patrick Li, who graciously represented MP Jean Yip, joining our President and CEO, Wendy Beckles and our Director of Spiritual Life and Strategic Partnerships, Rich Janes, in honouring these living legends.

We shared stories, learned a little history, and ended the day with a delicious piece of cake.

One fun fact that had us smiling? Sliced bread was first sold in 1928. Whether they were toddlers taking their very first bite or already growing up strong, our birthday stars have been the best thing since that very first slice!

We have a confession to make.

Last month we had a farm visit, but what we did not tell you was that we had some very special guests waiting in the wings. A clutch of eggs, carefully nursed and pampered, were getting ready to make their grand entrance.

Our residents and staff could barely contain themselves. Every day they were peeping around the door, whispering "are they here yet?" And then one day, they were.

The chicks hatched, and from that moment our home has not been the same. Residents came out to caress their soft little feathers, watch them eat, and cheer on their favourites. Some of the chicks even had regulars, friends who would show up just to check in on them.
