Ford put the Legislature on summer break until Oct 27th. Now he's trying to do the same with the committee responsible for vetting Conservative appointees to influential public bodies.

“I can’t believe that the PCs are fighting hard … for us not to do our jobs,” NDP MPP Wayne Gates said during the meeting.

"How many condos do we build right next to Pearson Airport? We don’t do it. People don’t want to live close to the noise of jet aircraft," Greg Sorbara.

In order to have jets at Billy Bishop Airport, Toronto Port Authority's proposed new runway would be 1,830 metres, extended 600 metres westward into the lake from the current runway, with additional 150 metre safety buffers on either side.

Building heights aren’t the only issue, there is also noise exposure to consider, the report notes. Other potential impacts could include requiring buildings to have restrictions on balconies and outdoor space, non-operable windows and mechanical ventilation.

Mark Carney’s position on Billy Bishop expansion is wobbling — from “interesting idea” to “we’ll consult.”

Ford passed Bill 110, the Billy Bishop Act to give his government control over the airport.

Ford says he wants to allow jets to use the facility and supports a plan that would require creating nearly a kilometre of artificial peninsulas, jutting out into Lake Ontario, to lengthen the airport’s main runway. It’s estimated the project would cost up to $5-billion over 25 years.

Any expansion would have to be approved by the federal government.
