Abrigo's seniors celebrated Festa dos Santos Populares yesterday and the event was filled with great food, music, activities and a lot of wedding fun. Congratulations to all the newlyweds! Thank you to all who celebrated and made the day so special.

Abrigo was delighted to recently receive a significant donation of personal hygiene products from our friends at .

Two large boxes were filled with individual bags loaded with items and ready for distribution to Abrigo clients. Included in each was a notecard with an inspirational message!

You may see news reports today about it being Juneteenth in the United States. Here's a bit of history around this official holiday in the US.

The Emancipation Proclamation was issued by President Abraham Lincoln and became official on January 1, 1863, declaring the more than three million enslaved people of Confederate states free.

Yet it would take two and a half years for the order to reach Texas, where the announcement was read by Union soldiers led by Major General Gordon Granger in Galveston on June 19, 1865. Now you know! Happy Juneteenth to all our American friends and colleagues.

On June 10th thousands of people across the Greater Toronto Area will come together to celebrate. We will proudly honour our heritage through parades, music, dance, food, and traditions that connect us to our families, communities, and Portuguese-speaking heritages.

It is a time to celebrate our history, recognize the contributions of Portuguese-speaking communities, and share the richness of our many diverse cultures with others.

As we celebrate our heritage, June also invites us to reflect on how we build communities where everyone feels welcomed, respected, and valued.

In Canada, June is also recognized as Pride Month and National Indigenous History Month. These observances provide an opportunity to learn about, celebrate, and support communities whose voices and experiences have not always been fully recognized or included.
