With combined efforts from scientists, emergency managers, storm enthusiasts, and media outlets, this endeavour works to develop new methods and tools to capture and analyze tornado events and their damage, helping strengthen community emergency preparedness.

Infrared scanning is used to detect hotspots on active wildland fires that are close to being called out. Fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, or drones are flown overnight to scan the wildland fire for remaining heat.

Identifying hotspots helps crews begin the mop-up process and confirms when a fire can be safely declared out. 🔥
