participated in the 96th Meeting of the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, Standing Committee in Geneva. During the meeting, Ambassador Tsegab Kebebew, First Vice-Chairperson of the Executive Committee (ExCom), chaired one of the Committee's sessions and delivered Ethiopia's statement on a key agenda item.
In his intervention, Ambassador Tsegab Kebebew reaffirmed Ethiopia's strong commitment to international refugee protection and highlighted the country's continued efforts to promote refugee inclusion, self-reliance, and access to national services.
He underscored Ethiopia's role as one of Africa's largest refugee-hosting countries and stressed the importance of international solidarity, equitable burden- and responsibility-sharing, and sustained support for host countries.
Ambassador Tsegab also emphasized the need for predictable and adequate financing to address growing displacement challenges and called for increased investment in refugee-hosting communities, education, livelihoods, and durable solutions for refugees.
He reaffirmed Ethiopia's commitment to working closely with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, Member States, and partners to strengthen protection and advance sustainable responses that benefit both refugees and host communities.

During the discussion, Ambassador Haileselassie expressed appreciation for the IAEAโs continued support to Ethiopia, particularly through the Rays of Hope Initiative, which is contributing to the expansion of cancer diagnosis and treatment services in the country.
He also highlighted ongoing efforts to advance the peaceful application of nuclear science and technology in health, agriculture, research, and energy, while reaffirming its commitment to the highest standards of nuclear safety, security, and safeguards.
The roundtable provided an important opportunity to exchange views on key global nuclear issues, including nuclear energy development, technical cooperation, nuclear safety and security, safeguards, and the role of nuclear technologies in supporting sustainable development.

has reaffirmed its strong commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights, democratic governance, and national reconciliation during the 62nd Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC62) in Geneva.
Delivering Ethiopiaโs national statement under the Interactive Dialogue with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Ambassador Tsegab Kebebew,underscored the Governmentโs ongoing efforts to strengthen democratic institutions and advance a nationally owned reform agenda.
The Ambassador highlighted the successful conduct of Ethiopiaโs 7th National Election on 1 June 2026, describing it as peaceful, inclusive, and participatory. He noted that the holding of the election reflected the will and aspirations of the Ethiopian people and marked another important step in consolidating democratic governance and strengthening national institutions.
He further emphasized the Governmentโs continued efforts to consolidate peace and implement Ethiopiaโs nationally owned Transitional Justice Policy. Ambassador Tsegab noted that the National Dialogue process has entered its final stage, with a national conference scheduled for mid-July 2026, creating a historic opportunity to foster broad national consensus, reconciliation, and sustainable peace.
The statement also highlighted ongoing measures to strengthen the rule of law, expand civic space, and enhance the participation of civil society organizations, human rights defenders, and other stakeholders in key national processes.
Reaffirming Ethiopiaโs principled approach to international cooperation, Ambassador Tsegab stressed Ethiopiaโs commitment to constructive engagement with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights based on dialogue, cooperation, mutual respect, and national ownership.
The 62nd Session of the UN Human Rights Council is taking place in Geneva from 15 June to 7 July 2026. Ethiopia continues to actively engage in the Councilโs deliberations while advancing its efforts to build a peaceful, democratic, and prosperous future for all its citizens.
