๐ Climate action in the Western Balkans just got a boost: The Austrian Development Agency launched its partnership with EUKI
The Western Balkans face a dual challenge: high emissions from coal-dependent energy and a lack of local capacity to implement climate solutions. Now, ADA and EUKI are joining forces to drive a just, green transition in the Western Balkans. In practice, that means less energy costs, more accessible renewable energy, and less textile waste.
ADA is Austriaโs federal agency for development cooperation and humanitarian aid. ADA joins EUKI within the framework of International Partnerships Austria. EUKI is an initiative of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN), which has been implemented since 2017.
With ADAโs co-financing, EUKI is able to fund three additional projects. These projects are designed to create tangible impact on the ground:
โ
SENCO supports municipalities, photovoltaic installers, and citizens in Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, and Albania. The project enables them to set up renewable energy communities. By reducing legal and technical barriers, it makes solar energy more accessible to local communities.
โ
Green Booster turns climate action plans into action in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Montenegro. It pilots energy-efficient renovations in homes and introduces energy management systems in public utility companies, saving energy and costs.
โ
Circular Textile Balkans reduces textile waste in North Macedonia and Kosovo. The projects supports municipalities in making their waste management more efficient. It sets up thrift shops and turns textile waste into new textiles.

From expert knowledge to catchy stories: This is what stood out in the two-day communication strategy training in Bucharest
๐ฏ Communication is not a one way road, said science communication researcher Ada Roseti. Its knowing your audience, targeted messaging and refining your stories after you received feedback from your audience.
The participants met Florin Zubaลcu, Executive Editor of Science|Business, and Dan Duca, Editorial Director of HotNews and Co-founder of SNOOP. The editors made the EUKI projects take over the perspective of journalists, what journalists need from climate action projects to tell their stories.
Both agreed that successful climate stories connect to real-life experiences of people. Effective communication is more than sharing information. It requires building trust and timely messages to the audience.
๐ค Istrate Silviu (aka Faiar), content creator and social activist, joined the workshop to share what it needs to reach out to your audience on social media. Translating expert knowledge to stories that everyone can connect to is crucial. Or as he put it: decomplexify your message.
As we always say: Do good and talk about it. Find future communication trainings on our website ๐https://www.euki.de/en/euki-academy/
Thank you to all EUKI project communicators who joined this two-day workshop. Let's get your message out! Thank you to Ada Roseti and Sorin Cebotari for your great facilitation.

The EUKICON26 report is out! Read it here โฌ๏ธ
At a time of growing urgency in climate policy and a shifting political landscape, the decarbonisation efforts of the EU and its industries face increasing pressure from external competitors. Security, resilience, and competitiveness have become a higher priority on Europeโs political agenda.
At the over 200 experts from climate policy and practice discussed how to double down on climate action in this changed political context. Together, we tackled questions like
๐นWhat is needed to make the EU stick with its strong climate targets and actually meet them?
๐นHow can climate and security policy be aligned to achieve mutual benefits?
๐นHow can European industrial, trade and investment policies harness climate action as a driver of sustainable growth and strategic autonomy?
Dive into the report to read about discussions, keynotes, and workshop outcomes at EUKICON26 that addressed these questions. ๐https://www.euki.de/en/euki-publications/eukicon26-doubling-down-on-climate-action/

How EU Member States can design effective methane mitigation plans ๐
Methane emissions are a critical lever for achieving EU climate goals. EUKI project ๐๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ด๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ต ๐๐ผ ๐ ๐ฒ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ป๐ฒ ๐๐บ๐ถ๐๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ ๐๐ฏ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐ supports Lithuania, Poland, and Romania in developing tailored mitigation plans with knowledge, tools, and policy recommendations.
Their new publication "Methane Mitigation Action Plans โ Guidelines for EU Member States" offers a structured framework for designing national action plans. It covers emissions quantification, target setting, and monitoring systems, while emphasizing cross-sector coordination and alignment with EU policies like the Global Methane Pledge.
