As part of its ongoing commitment to public safety and environmental sustainability, the Lautoka City Council has commenced a vegetation management exercise along Vitogo Parade.
Following a detailed assessment of 217 Royal Palm trees along the parade, 9 trees have been identified for removal due to termite damage, hollow trunks, structural weakness, and other conditions that may pose a risk to public safety. These trees will be removed and replaced with younger, healthy Royal Palm trees to maintain the beauty, safety, and character of the area.
Today, Council teams carried out the clearing of encroaching Vaivai trees, while the removal and replacement of the identified Royal Palm trees will commence tomorrow.
The Council wishes to assure the public that tree removal is undertaken strictly on a case-by-case basis. Particular attention is given to Royal Palm, Flame, and Vaivai trees that have been assessed as damaged, diseased, structurally compromised, or posing a risk to pedestrians, motorists, and nearby properties.
Relevant agencies, including the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji, will be consulted where necessary before any tree is removed. Furthermore, every tree removed will be replaced as part of Councilโs ongoing commitment to preserving and enhancing Lautokaโs urban greenery for future generations.

Revised User Pay Refuse Collection Fees Due to Recent Increase in Fuel Prices
Lautoka City Council wishes to inform all ratepayers and citizens that there will be an adjustment to
user pay refuse collection fees as a result of increased operational costs arising from the recent fuel
surcharge effective June 15, 2026.
Recent increases in fuel costs have had a direct impact on waste collection services, including the
operation of waste collection trucks, transportation of waste to disposal site, and maintenance of
collection fleet. There has been 114% increase in fuel prices from $2.14 in March, 2026 to $4.58 in
June, 2026.
The above collection service is outsourced and recent increase in fuel prices has significantly raised
contractual costs, making a review of collection fees necessary to ensure the continued delivery of
reliable and efficient waste management services.
We appreciate your understanding and continued support as we work together to keep our
community clean, safe, and sustainable.
