The high-level meeting brought together key representatives from Fiji Government ministries, academia, and respective non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to collectively advance the utilization of geospatial information across the nation.
A central highlight of today's council meeting included crucial technical updates and strategic presentations aimed at enhancing national resilience and infrastructure development.
The council highlighted the coordinated efforts of the Aerial Acquisition Working Group (AAWG), which plays a vital role in streamlining national aerial mapping policies, standardizing data collection workflows, and ensuring cohesive agency collaboration for airborne data capture.
Closely aligned with the AAWG's data collection frameworks, updates were presented on the use of advanced remote sensing technology provides highly accurate, high-resolution 3D digital elevation models of Fiji's terrain, serving as a baseline asset for infrastructure development, forestry management, and climate change adaptation.
As Fiji faces complex development and environmental challenges, the councilโs primary focus centers on leveraging spatial data to drive better planning and highly informed decision-making.
By breaking down data silos and uniting technical expertise, this collaborative framework ensures that national policies ranging from infrastructure mapping to climate vulnerability assessments are backed by accurate, real-time geographic data.
The FGIMC continues to serve as the foundational platform for standardizing Fiji's geospatial infrastructure, reinforcing the Government's commitment to modernization, resource security, and evidence-based development.

The courtesy meeting provided an important platform for high-level dialogue on areas of mutual interest, focusing on the strategic intersection of land management, mineral resource sector development, and sustainable urban planning.
During the discussions, Her Excellency High Commissioner Seet-Cheng shared valuable historical perspectives from Singaporeโs early post-independence era, detailing the fundamental elements of town planning and infrastructure ex*****on required when managing a compact land mass.
Recognising the growing challenges confronting Small Island Developing States (SIDS), both leaders underscored the urgent need to pursue climate-resilient development pathways. They acknowledged that strengthening resilience through sustainable planning, sound resource management, and strategic partnerships is essential to safeguarding communities and supporting long-term national development.

๐๐๐๐๐ฆ๐ โ Recently, our Divisional Lands Office Northern (DLON) successfully convened a pivotal Customer Service and Quality Assurance Awareness Session for its administrative and field officers at our Northern Office based at Macuata House, Labasa.
Under the guidance of Customer Advocacy Officer (CAO) Mr. Nitesh Kumar and Manager Policy Quality Assurance (MPQA) Mrs. Elizabeth Cavuilati, the discussions targeted core pillars of the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources: operational integrity, proactive communication, and public accountability.
Recognizing the unique geographical and logistical landscape of the Northern Division, staff reflected on their crucial responsibilities in securing livelihoods and facilitating land security for lessees, landowners, and the private sector.
The interactive forum served as a platform for officers to evaluate current service delivery bottlenecks and brainstorm innovative solutions for more agile land administration.

Officiating at the event, the ๐ ๐ถ๐ป๐ถ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ ๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐น ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐๐ผ๐๐ฟ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐, ๐๐ผ๐ป. ๐๐ถ๐น๐ถ๐บ๐ผ๐ป๐ถ ๐ฉ๐ผ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ด๐ผ acknowledged the traditional leaders for their progressive leadership and support in enabling the project to proceed.
He highlighted that the borehole is the result of detailed scientific and technical work undertaken by the Ministryโs hydrogeologists and drilling teams, assuring the community that strict testing and safety standards were applied throughout the process.
Every groundwater sample has been thoroughly tested and verified, including its mineral composition.
The $๐ญ๐ณ๐ฌ,๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐ถ๐ป๐๐ฒ๐๐๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐ directly services 21 households and benefits all 51 residents of Baidamudamu Village, delivering a reliable water source to the doorstep of the community.
โThe daily burden of fetching water from distant sources is now behind you,โ the Hon. Minister added.
He further reflected on the broader importance of development beyond infrastructure, noting the social and health challenges facing communities today, including rising non-communicable diseases, illicit drug use, HIV/AIDS, and cost of living pressures.
The Minister encouraged the community to use the time and energy saved from water collection to strengthen family wellbeing, guide and support young people, and reinforce community unity.
He also encouraged the village to make productive use of their land, particularly through agriculture, to strengthen household food security and resilience in the face of rising global costs.
