The high-level meeting brought together key representatives from Fiji Government ministries, academia, and respective non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to collectively advance the utilization of geospatial information across the nation.

A central highlight of today's council meeting included crucial technical updates and strategic presentations aimed at enhancing national resilience and infrastructure development.

The council highlighted the coordinated efforts of the Aerial Acquisition Working Group (AAWG), which plays a vital role in streamlining national aerial mapping policies, standardizing data collection workflows, and ensuring cohesive agency collaboration for airborne data capture.

Closely aligned with the AAWG's data collection frameworks, updates were presented on the use of advanced remote sensing technology provides highly accurate, high-resolution 3D digital elevation models of Fiji's terrain, serving as a baseline asset for infrastructure development, forestry management, and climate change adaptation.

As Fiji faces complex development and environmental challenges, the councilโ€™s primary focus centers on leveraging spatial data to drive better planning and highly informed decision-making.

By breaking down data silos and uniting technical expertise, this collaborative framework ensures that national policies ranging from infrastructure mapping to climate vulnerability assessments are backed by accurate, real-time geographic data.

The FGIMC continues to serve as the foundational platform for standardizing Fiji's geospatial infrastructure, reinforcing the Government's commitment to modernization, resource security, and evidence-based development.
