🌍 to the celebration of 30 years of ❤️

The African Network of UNESCO Biosphere Reserves (AfriMAB) came together in Livingstone, Zambia 🇿🇲, for its 8th General Assembly, marking three decades of collaboration across Africa’s biosphere reserves.

Under the theme “Harnessing Africa’s Natural Resources through Ecosystem-Friendly Technologies,” the gathering was a powerful reminder of the role of innovation, partnerships, and locally driven solutions in shaping a sustainable future.

✨ Key moments included:
• Looking ahead: from the Lima Action Plan to the Hangzhou Strategic Action Plan (2026–2035)
• Exploring technologies to better monitor environmental change
• Strengthening youth leadership through AfriMAB Youth Networks
• Unlocking new partnerships and financing opportunities
• Connecting biosphere reserves to global frameworks like the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and the SDGs

Together, Africa’s biosphere reserves continue to lead the way in making peace with nature. 🌿

🌏 Meet a new member of the World Network of Biosphere Reserves: Daqingshan, China 🇨🇳

Stretching across the Yinshan Mountains of Inner Mongolia, Daqingshan is where forests meet grasslands, a living bridge between ecosystems.

🌿 Home to over 1,100 plant species and hundreds of animals, including globally threatened birds and the iconic Przewalski’s horse, this landscape is a true biodiversity hotspot.

🐎 But it’s not just about nature. For centuries, this region has been a cultural crossroads along ancient trade routes, where Mongol and Han communities continue traditions rooted in the land.

🔥 Today, Daqingshan is a place where people and nature work together — from pastoral livelihoods to sustainable land management in a fragile steppe-forest transition zone.

✨ Designated in 2025, it joins a growing global network of “living laboratories” for sustainable development.
