EPPO is an intergovernmental organization responsible for cooperation in plant health

The main activities of the European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization (EPPO) are:
- Setting regional standards and as a Regional PPO, participating in global activities related to standards on phytosanitary measures coordinated by the IPPC Secretariat within FAO.
- Organizing expert Working Party & Panel meetings of the EPPO region.
- Organizing international conferences and workshops for researchers, managers of National PPOs, phytosanitary inspectors...

Day 2 of the Working Party on Phytosanitary Regulations, which is kindly being hosted by the NPPO of Georgia in Tbilisi.

➡️ During it's second day, the Working Party is discussing new proposals for addition to EPPO A1 and A2 Lists of pests recommended for regulation as quarantine pests as well as delisting proposals and reviewing new/revised Standards in the series PM3, PM4 and PM9.

➡️ In particular, the Working Party agreed that Clavibacter michiganensis, Harringtonia lauricola (laurel wilt, and it's vector Xyleborus glabratus), Litylenchus crenatae (beech leaf disease) and Senecio angulatus (plant) are added to EPPO A1/A2 Lists.

This week it is the Working Party on Phytosanitary Regulations, which is kindly being hosted by the NPPO of Georgia in Tbilisi.

➡️ This morning the Working Party browsed diagnostic activities and all diagnostic Standards were agreed to be sent to council for approval. Later today the Working Party will review phytosanitary risks and measures activities.

📅 On 18 June, EPPO participated in the 7th annual workshop of the European Reference Laboratory for Insects and Mites, hosted by the Austrian Research Centre for Forests in Vienna.

➡️ Yassine Aoutil, a Scientific Officer at EPPO provided an update on EPPO activities in entomology.

📅 This week EPPO Scientific Officer Dmitrii Musolin is attending the General Assembly of the Bexyl Project “Beyond Xylella, Integrated Management Strategies for Mitigating Xylella fastidiosa impact in Europe” at CIHEAM Bari.

🤝 EPPO is a partner in the EU-funded Bexyl Project. The BeXyl Project gathers the top worldwide scientists and stakeholders to find new strategies to mitigate the impact of the Xylella fastidiosa outbreaks in the EU.

🤝 EPPO is pleased to be a partner on the PhytoPRISM project, which will develop state-of-the-art risk management tools through an open-access platform. This will enable scientifically robust and harmonized management options to be set by National Plant Protection Organizations across the region.

🌱 The PhytoPRISM project aims to give plant health authorities the ability to model and optimise pest control strategies across the entire agri-value chain.
