"This is a mission" — TreSPAD 2026 Paris | UIC Trespass Prevention Conference
"This is the most meaningful job I've ever had. It's become kind of a mission."
Trespass and su***de events on or near railway tracks affect the whole of the rail industry — safety, performance, reputation, costs and efficiency. The issue affects all parts of the business and society as a whole, and is therefore something we must tackle together.
TreSPAD — the UIC Trespass Awareness Day — is UIC's global initiative to raise awareness of the risks at and around railway tracks and property, and to prevent accidents, incidents and casualties.
Each year, it brings together rail operators, researchers, government representatives and safety specialists from around the world to share data, combine human factors with technology, and build the cross-border knowledge that saves lives.
This film captures the 2026 launch conference in Paris, held jointly with ILCAD — floor interviews, live reactions, unscripted. What the experts say when the session is over and the mic is still on.

ILCAD
ILCAD aims to raise awareness about the dangers associated with the road/rail interfaces
ILCAD, led by the International Union of Railways (UIC), brings together railway industry representatives, road authorities, academics and more from around the world. The International Level Crossing Awareness Day is a joint commitment continuing from the success of the first European Level Crossing Awareness Day held on 25th June 2009 in 28 countries raising public awareness on the dangers of misbehaviour at level crossings.
Our work is never done - ILCAD 2026 International Conference - UIC Video post ILCAD 2026 conference : "Our work is never done. There's always something we can learn from each other."
Every year, level crossing safety professionals from around the world gather to share data, methods, and hard lessons. ILCAD — the International Level Crossing Awareness Day — is more than a campaign. It is a working community.
This short film captures the 2026 international conference: rail operators, researchers, and safety experts comparing challenges, refining risk assessment frameworks, and building the cross-border knowledge that saves lives.
Because understanding how a crossing works — as a system, as technology, as human behaviour — is never finished work.
