SEPA has issued a flood alert for Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City.

Flooding from surface water and small watercourses is possible from the early hours of Friday and throughout the day due to heavy and thundery rain.

Some flooding impacts including flooding to low lying land and roads, and disruption to transport are possible, particularly if the most intense rain falls on built up areas. Some isolated properties may also be at risk.

This alert is now in force until further notice. For the latest information, visit https://floodline.sepa.org.uk/floodupdates/

We can confirm that the A93 Station Road in Banchory has now re-opened to traffic following the damage caused by the torrential rainfall earlier this month.

Our Roads Service has completed all repairs possible at this stage to make the road safe and allow it to re-open this afternoon.

Work has been closely coordinated with Scottish Water, SGN and BT throughout.

Further works will be required and will be carried out by the utility companies in due course, particularly in the Forestside area, as we continue to address the underlying issues.

We would like to thank all road users for their patience while these repairs were made.

We have teamed up with Pauline Cordiner, a Scottish storyteller to offer Peterhead Trail guided walking tours during the school summer holidays.

🏰 Step back in time with local guide Pauline as you explore Peterhead’s streets, landmarks and fascinating tales of krakens, witches and the people who shaped the coastal town.

🔍 Discover hidden corners, secret spots and lesser-known stories which reveal a different side of Peterhead’s rich history.

🎓 Learn from Pauline, a passionate local historian and storyteller, and gain a deeper understanding of the town’s heritage and character.

Taking place on Tuesdays 14th and 21st July, and 4th and 11th August, these walking tours last 1.5 hours and are FREE to attend.

⛈️ A yellow warning for thunderstorms has been issued by the Met Office for across tomorrow, Friday 26 June. Thunderstorms and heavy rain may cause some disruption.

🟡 There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds
🟡 Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
🟡 Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
🟡 There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads
🟡 There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost

Remain vigilant and remember, it is your responsibility to take actions which help protect yourself and your property. The Met Office has issued advice for staying safe in a thunderstorm at https://weather.metoffice.gov.uk/warnings-and-advice/seasonal-advice

⬛ When food waste goes in your black bin, it’s burned—and we’re currently throwing away 10,000 tonnes a year this way in Aberdeenshire.

Food waste in black-lid bins costs more to deal with—but your green caddy is one of the easiest swaps with the biggest environmental impact.

♻️ When recycled, your food waste is turned into biogas to heat homes and power vehicles and also turned into nutrient-rich fertiliser to grow crops. Some even becomes compost for the next generation of food.

Even more surprising:
👉 Around 23% of black bin contents is food waste
👉 And over half of that was never even opened
That’s a lot of wasted food—and wasted potential.

✅ Use your green caddy—it’s collected weekly
🥗 Need a food caddy? You can pick up a free indoor or outdoor caddy from your local recycling centre.

🥗 Need liners? Grab them from household recycling centres, council libraries, or simply tie one to your outdoor caddy and the collection crew will leave you a new roll (where stock is available).

Pictured is a bin full of food.

Road users are advised that we will be undertaking patching works on roads within the Central Buchan area over five days from Monday, July 6.

The C103B Maud to Bulwark road will be closed from the B9129 to the U103B with a recommended diversion via the A948, B9106 and B9029.

Also being closed is the C100B Crichie to Kinnadie road from the B9030 to the C79B with the detour via the B9030 and C97B.

Access will be provided for emergency services and vehicles requiring access to immediate properties.

We appreciate that working on roads can cause some inconvenience to users, but we would ask that you bear with us as we carry out these essential improvements.

Remember if you have myAberdeenshire you can sign up for email alerts for road closures and restrictions via the myAberdeenshire dashboard at https://www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/my/ or visit https://online.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/apps/roadworks/

We are conducting a major review of how speed limits are set and managed across Aberdeenshire's roads, marking a significant step forward in its continuing commitment to improving road safety.

The review will introduce a revised speed management methodology designed to align fully with national policy and recognised professional practice.

It aims to deliver a more consistent, transparent and evidence-based approach to decision-making, while placing a stronger emphasis on reducing risk and improving the experience of local communities.

The deadline for the Crown Estates Coastal Communities Fund for the Banff and Buchan area has been extended until 5pm on Wednesday, July 8.
Every year, some of Crown Estate Scotland's income is allocated to coastal local authorities - including Aberdeenshire Council - and is distributed via grants of between £500 and £5,000.
Once again we’re looking for projects to help fund that are led by public or third sector parties that have a tangible link to the coast or sea which:

✅Help people to develop skills related to coastal or seafaring pursuits, activities or enterprises, for example sailing, fishing, or boatbuilding
✅Celebrate the heritage of coastal and seagoing communities of place and interest. For example, a coastal or fishing village or township, historic boatbuilding, or relevant clubs or organisations
✅Improve access to coastal areas. For example, paths and viewpoints
✅Improve the coastal environment. For example, applications to establish and support community groups looking after their coastline
✅Improve community-controlled infrastructure such as harbours, boathouses and buildings.
