i gefnogi gan fenter Treftadaeth mewn Angen: Mannau Addoli Cronfa Treftadaeth y Loteri Genedlaethol, bydd y cyfnod datblygu 15 mis yn mapio cyflwr presennol adeiladau capeli, archifau, gwrthrychau a threftadaeth gysylltiedig. Bydd ein canfyddiadau’n helpu i lunio gwell cefnogaeth i gynulleidfaoedd, enwadau, cymunedau a pherchnogion preifat – gan sicrhau bod y dreftadaeth gyfoethog hon yn cael ei diogelu ar gyfer cenedlaethau’r dyfodol. Bydd y prosiect hefyd yn dathlu’r rôl ganolog y mae capeli wedi’i chwarae wrth lunio bywyd crefyddol, diwylliannol, gwleidyddol ac addysgol Cymru dros y 300 mlynedd diwethaf. Os ydych chi’n cynrychioli capel gweithredol, grŵp cymunedol, neu’n berchen ar hen gapel ac yn dymuno cymryd rhan yn ein cyfrifiad cenedlaethol o gapeli neu ymuno â gweithdai fydd yn trafod heriau gofalu am dreftadaeth capeli, cysylltwch â [email protected]

Capeli Cymru is the Royal Commission’s exciting new project to understand, document, and respond to the growing loss of Wales’ Nonconformist heritage. Supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund’s Heritage in Need: Places of Worship initiative, the 15-month development phase will map the current state of chapel buildings, archives, objects, and associated heritage. Our findings will help shape support for congregations, denominations, communities, and private owners – ensuring this rich heritage is safeguarded for future generations. The project will also celebrate the pivotal role chapels have played in shaping Wales’ religious, cultural, political, and educational life over the past 300 years. If you represent an active chapel, community group, or own a former chapel and would like to take part in our national census of chapels or join workshops on the challenges of caring for chapel heritage, please contact [email protected]

Diolch yn fawr iawn i bawb sydd eisoes wedi cymryd rhan yng Nghyfrifiad Cenedlaethol y Capeli.
Mae eich amser, eich mewnwelediadau a'ch ymatebion yn ein helpu i greu darlun cliriach o gapeli ledled Cymru — sut maen nhw'n cael eu defnyddio, a'r hyn maen nhw'n ei olygu i gymunedau.
Rydym wedi cael cannoedd o ymatebion hyd yn hyn, ond gyda miloedd o gapeli ledled Cymru, mae pob cyfraniad unigol yn dal i wneud gwahaniaeth.
Os nad ydych wedi'i gwblhau eto, mae amser o hyd — rydym wedi ymestyn y dyddiad cau a byddem wrth ein bodd yn clywed gennych!
A huge thank you to everyone who has already taken part in the National Chapel Census.
Your time, insights and responses are helping us build a clearer picture of chapels across Wales — how they’re used, and what they mean to communities.
We’ve had hundreds of responses so far, but with thousands of chapels across Wales, every single contribution still makes a difference.
If you haven’t completed it yet, there’s still time — we have extended the closing date and would love to hear from you!

Sgwrs ddiddorol ar heddiw gyda Ben Sims o
Fel rhan o raglen Jason Mohammad, The Phone In, codwyd cwestiwn pwysig ac amserol: A oes digon yn cael ei wneud i ddiogelu adeiladau crefyddol yng Nghymru? https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002x26p
Mae'r cwestiwn hwn wrth wraidd prosiect Capeli Cymru, sy'n gweithio i ddiogelu treftadaeth Anghydffurfiaeth yng Nghymru trwy sicrhau ei bod yn cael ei deall, ei gwerthfawrogi a'i chadw ar gyfer cenedlaethau'r dyfodol. Mewn partneriaeth ag enwadau, cynulleidfaoedd, sefydliadau treftadaeth a chymunedau lleol, mae'r prosiect yn datblygu strategaethau arloesol ac ymarferol i ddiogelu treftadaeth capeli ledled Cymru.
Rhan allweddol o'r gwaith hwn yw Cyfrifiad Capeli Cenedlaethol, sy'n mapio capeli gweithredol, capeli caeedig ac wedi'u haddasu ledled Cymru, ac yn casglu data hanfodol ar eu cynaliadwyedd a'u harwyddocâd pensaernïol.
An interesting conversation on today with Ben Sims from
As part of Jason Mohammad’s programme, The Phone In, an important and timely question was raised: Is there enough being done to preserve religious buildings in Wales? https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002x26p
This question sits at the heart of the Capeli Cymru project, which works to safeguard the heritage of Nonconformity in Wales by ensuring it is understood, valued, and preserved for future generations. In partnership with denominations, congregations, heritage organisations and local communities, the project is developing innovative and practical approaches to safeguard chapel heritage across Wales.
A key part of this work is a National Chapel Census, which is mapping active, closed and converted chapels across Wales, and gathering vital data on their sustainability and architectural significance.
Mae tai cyfarfod y Crynwyr yn rhan bwysig o dreftadaeth grefyddol gyfoethog Cymru. Ydych chi'n adnabod un yn eich cymuned?

Neithiwr, cafodd tîm Capeli Cymru amser gwych yn sioe Keith a Marj: Us, Pots and a Welsh Chapel.
Roedden ni yno i sgwrsio ag aelodau’r gynulleidfa am brosiect Capeli Cymru, cysylltu â phobl sy’n angerddol am dreftadaeth capeli, a chlywed gan y rhai sydd wedi cael eu hysbrydoli gan daith Keith a Marj – gan gynnwys rhai sydd bellach yn breuddwydio am (neu eisoes yn cymryd camau tuag at!) brynu capel eu hunain.
Roedd hefyd yn bleser mawr cwrdd â Keith a Marj ar ôl y sioe a rhannu mwy am waith Capeli Cymru. Mae eu stori’n parhau i danio diddordeb yn nyfodol capeli Cymru – ac mae’n wych bod yn rhan o’r sgyrsiau hynny.
Diolch i bawb a ddaeth draw am sgwrs!

Last night, the Capeli Cymru team had a fantastic time at the Keith and Marj: Us, Pots, and a Welsh Chapel show!
We were there to chat with audience members about the Capeli Cymru project, connect with people passionate about chapel heritage, and hear from those who’ve been inspired by Keith and Marj’s journey – including some who are now dreaming of (or already taking steps toward!) buying a chapel of their own.
It was also a real pleasure to meet Keith and Marj after the show and share more about the work of Capeli Cymru. Their story continues to spark interest in the future of Welsh chapels – and it’s brilliant to be part of those conversations.
Thank you to everyone who came over for a chat!
