The Met Office have Issued an Amber Warning for Exceptionally HOT weather this week.
Dogs are 10 times more likely to suffer from heat related illnesses from exercising in hot weather than from overheating in cars.
NEVER LEAVE ANIMALS IN CARS OR CONSERVATORIES IN THE HOT WEATHER.
Never leave your pet inside a car or conservatory, even for a quick trip to the supermarket, as ‘not long’ can prove FATAL.
Leaving the car windows open and a bowl of water is not enough.
IF YOU SEE A DOG IN DISTRESS IN A HOT CAR, IT IS BEST TO DIAL 999 AND REPORT IT TO POLICE.
Do the five-second tarmac test before taking a dog out for a walk: if it feels too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws. 💚

🌿 Tinker Brook Water Testing 🌿
Hyndburn Green Party has been investigating concerns about United Utilities’ discharge of raw sewage into Tinker Brook, Oswaldtwistle. Yesterday, we visited the area to collect water samples, which will be submitted to the Environment Agency for testing.
We’re incredibly grateful to Prospects Foundation for their support and to Ribble Rivers Trust for kindly providing the testing equipment. A special thank you also goes to Abbie, a local resident whose concern for Tinker Brook first brought this issue to our attention.
It’s fantastic to see local people and organisations working together to protect our environment 💚
Lots more updates to come! Keep an eye on our page 👀

Four Palestine protesters are Convicted as Terrorists for a Combined 26 years. For damaging drones Used to Kill Palestinians.
On Friday 13th June the Filton 4 were sentenced to the following:-
-Charlotte Head: 6 years.
-Leona Kamio: 6 years.
-Fatema Rajwani: 5 years 8 months.
-Samuel Corner: 8 years 8 months. A combined total of over 26 years in prison.
In August 2024 they broke into the Filton factory of Elbit Systems, an Israeli weapons manufacturer supplying drones to the Israeli military for use in the genocide in Gaza.
Since October 2023, at least 72,315 Palestinians have been killed, 172,137 injured. At least 18,000 of them were children. 258 journalists. 1,700 healthcare workers. The Lancet estimates the true death toll is 34% higher than official figures. These are not numbers. These are people.
Two separate juries refused to convict them of the serious charges the government brought. Despite this, Judge Jeremy Johnson applied a "terrorist connection" at sentencing, the first time in British legal history that criminal damage has been treated as terrorism. The jury were never told he would do this.
Their motivation: opposing British complicity in the genocide, was ruled an aggravating factor.
Thomas Mair murdered MP Jo Cox. No terrorism connection.
A man stockpiling weapons to start a race war against Muslims. No terrorism connection.
Four people who destroyed military drones bound for Gaza: terrorists.
Green Peer Jenny Jones said: "They acted to save lives not to take lives. Whatever anyone thinks of their specific actions, they were clearly a very long way from what any reasonable person would consider terrorism. These sentences need to be reviewed immediately."
Green MP Sian Berry added: "Real questions remain about the impartiality of this judge whose behaviour throughout the trial has been condemned by lawyers, magistrates, and former police officers."
As Charlotte Head was led from the dock, she shouted:
"In order to hear the birds, the warplanes must be silent."

With so much fear and misinformation around, we owe it to each other to start with the facts.
Thanks to Zoe April Thomas - Green Party Overton ward for checking the figures and explaining what’s actually happening in a way rumours and headlines often miss.

Spreading False Figures to Frighten People is Not Acceptable.
Here are the real figures with references.
When false information about asylum seekers spreads, it's done to frighten people.
I live in Great Harwood and when I read the claims about hundreds of 'illegals' roaming the streets of my town, I decided to look up the correct figures myself and here they are.
The numbers being claimed by groups, some councillors and far right parties are not just wrong, they're shockingly inaccurate!
In Hyndburn there are 583 real people here. 107 Ukrainians, 64 from Afghanistan on the resettlement programme, and the rest are supported asylum seekers. That's just 0.68% of the total population of Hyndburn.
Conservative Councillor David Heap himself cited 487 HMOs in Hyndburn when he spoke at a recent gathering in Great Harwood this week, but there are only 401 asylum seekers in dispersal accommodation across the entire borough of Hyndburn, that's less than one per HMO.

When people come over on boats they go to processing centres in Kent. Then to initial accommodation, often in hotels, mostly in the south of England. Blackpool, for example, has 262 people in hotel accommodation. There are NO asylum seeker hotels in Hyndburn. After hotels, some people may go into dispersal accommodation, which can include HMOs. There are 487 HMOs registered in Hyndburn, around 45 in Great Harwood, housing disabled people, NHS workers, young people and those on low incomes, under-35s on Universal Credit and many more.
At most, around 35 people in Great Harwood could be asylum seekers in HMO accommodation.
Not hundreds.
Those 35 people have risked so much to be here. To find a safe place away from war, persecution and fear. And I want to say something personal to those few people here in our town 'I welcome you. I care about you and I want you to know that.'
The Green Party's position is clear:
"Elected Greens will campaign for a system of asylum and humanitarian protection that treats the applicant fairly, humanely and without discrimination."
