It may be tempting to cool off in or near the water during a heatwave, but please take extra care when doing so ☀️

Swim at a lifeguarded beach where possible 🏖️

Take notice of the beach flags and safety signs 🚩

Stay within your limits when in the water 🌊

Never enter the water after drinking alcohol ❌

If you get into trouble, Float to Live 🛟

In an emergency at the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

🔥 Hot weather + multiple medications = higher risk!

Some meds (like diuretics, beta-blockers, certain antidepressants) can affect how your body handles heat. But there are some things you can do to help.

✔️ Stay hydrated
✔️ Keep cool
✔️ Wear light clothing
✔️ Limit activity in peak heat
✔️ Know the signs of heat illness
✔️ Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about medication risks

Here are 5 top tips to help you beat the heat.

Huge congratulations to our theatre cricket team who triumphed over their colleagues at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust earlier this month, all in aid of a good cause.

The lively 20:20 match, played in great spirit and watched by an enthusiastic crowd saw over £1,100 raised for UKROPS. The charity was set up by Southampton based consultant anaesthetist Leo Krivskiy in 2024 to support fellow medics in Ukraine.

A huge thank you to our Learning, Education and Development (LEaD) team for hosting Tilly from Trafalgar School for a work experience placement at QA Hospital.

Tilly, who hopes to become a children's nurse, spent time learning about the many career opportunities available within the NHS and left feeling "thoroughly inspired".

Big step forward in neonatal and acute care at Queen Alexandra Hospital!

A new real-time imaging system, developed by Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust in partnership with Sectra, now allows ultrasound scans taken at the point of care to be shared instantly with specialist teams across the region. This helps speed up decisions for some of our most unwell patients, including newborn babies in NICU.

The change replaces outdated processes like transferring images via USBs and CDs, making imaging safer, faster, and fully part of the patient record.
