Our Education Team were delighted to get a letter from a pupil at Whiteley Primary School thanking them for a school workshop.

We wanted to share it with our Fort Nelson community.

Dear Fort Nelson,

Please can you give this letter to the people who were acting as Florence Nightingale, Lord Stern and The Gunner.

I thought you were amazing and not to mention fun. You were so good at staying in character.

You were funny and knowledgeable and it was my favourite school trip yet. You did a great job and I wanted to tell you that - thank you!

Fort Nelson Remembers – D-Day 82.

Today, we commemorate D-Day by reflecting on the courage and sacrifice of those who served.

Fort Nelson has a D-Day exhibition with photos taken by The News of the Operation Overlord leaving Portsmouth, and films of local residents recalling their memories of D-Day.

Our recent Standing with Giants art installation was a powerful reminder of those who gave their lives on D-Day, fighting for our freedom.

We were honoured to welcome four D-Day veterans to see the poignant Standing with Giants tribute, whilst it was on display at the Victorian fort.

Fort Nelson has close ties with Portsmouth, from where so many sailed for D-Day.

Today, and every day - We Will Remember Them.
