On 1 July 2026, the inaugural event of a new high-level debate series on De-risking European Institutions will bring together policymakers, industry leaders, local governments and civil society to examine Europe’s growing dependence on foreign technology infrastructure and its implications for democratic resilience, security and strategic autonomy.

The first discussion, focused on Sovereign Cloud, will explore practical pathways to strengthening the protection of European institutions and data, while promoting fair competition and safeguarding democratic integrity.

LI's full member party VVD, in cooperation with the European Liberal Forum (ELF), concluded the Liberal Partnership Days alongside the VVD Spring Congress in The Hague. The event brought together liberal politicians, experts, and partners from across Europe and beyond to exchange views on strengthening liberal democracy, international cooperation, and political resilience.

During the gathering, LI Bureau members Vice President Henrik Bach Mortensen and Treasurer Lennart Salemink met with Pedro Urruchurtu, Foreign Relations Representative of our member party Vente Venezuela. Their discussion focused on the ongoing challenges facing Venezuela, including the state of democracy, human rights, and the prospects for democratic change.

LI celebrates the 100th birthday of Abdoulaye Wade, founder of our full member party, Senegal's Democratic Party (PDS), and one of Africa's foremost liberal democrats.

For decades, President Wade championed political pluralism, democratic governance, and individual liberty, ultimately leading Senegal's historic democratic transition in 2000. A recipient of Liberal International's Prize for Freedom 2003, his legacy continues to inspire liberals across Africa and around the world.

LI congratulates its full member party on a successful party congress and the re-election of its leadership.

LI Deputy President Astrid Thors welcomed the congress discussions, noting that “at a time of growing international uncertainty, it is encouraging to see SFP champion a stronger Nordic region built on democracy, human rights, and the rule of law, while advancing important reforms in education, tackling child poverty, and strengthening protections against gender-based violence.”

We wish SFP every success as it continues this work and prepares for the 2027 elections.

Liberal International congratulates President and our full member party on the second anniversary of the administration and reaffirms our solidarity with the people of Taiwan.

At a time of growing authoritarian pressure, Taiwan’s commitment to democracy, human rights, and the rule of law remains an inspiration to the global liberal family. We also support Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organisations, including the WHA, because global challenges require global cooperation.
