As Week 2026 draws to a close, we hear from Marianna Volioti, Edge Grove School Librarian, about how the school’s library is embracing this year’s theme of Reading and Literacy
At Edge Grove School in Hertfordshire, three libraries serve a wonderfully multicultural community of children from Nursery to Year 8 – a vibrant mix of ethnicities, backgrounds and abilities that each library reflects and celebrates. https://www.cilip.org.uk/news/728631/Libraries-Change-Lives-Edge-Grove-School.htm

and fortnight are overlapping this year and these are just two pieces of feedback we've had from our customers who access our Talking Newspaper service about the lifeline it provides.
The Shetland Times weekly paper is recorded by volunteers, copied and and sent out by Library Staff to homes around Shetland, to those who cannot access the print version of the paper.
You'll see a bit more about this part of our service in tomorrow's posts.

A Salford school used an AI-generated list to ban 200 books, overriding their own librarian’s expertise. Many were LGBTQ+ titles. This tactic mirrors US campaigns using automated bias to censor LGBTQ+ stories. Read our article: https://www.cilip.org.uk/news/728340/Book-bans-mirror-US-campaigns-.htm

✨It’s Libraries Change Lives Week 2026! ✨
📅 Monday 1 June – Sunday 7 June
Libraries Week was envisaged as a welcome opportunity to celebrate our sector. Today, it is something even more critical: a platform for the entire library community to demonstrate our value, tell our stories and make the case for sustained investment and recognition.
The 2026 theme in the National Year of Reading is Libraries Change Lives through literacy and reading. This is the message in libraries across every sector - public libraries, school and academic libraries, those in national institutions - hospitals, commerce, law and government.
CILIP's Libraries Change Lives is our chance to shout about what we do from the rooftops, and for the profession to come together to celebrate, and to advocate for all our users across the four nations.
