When we invested in a Welfare Vehicle, this was one of the ways we envisaged it would be used. It's the small things that make a difference when you're working at the scene of an incident like the Bedford rail collision: a quiet place to call home, access to cold drinks, and, in weather like we have seen this week, sunscreen.

Thank you to our members for your dedication and professionalism, and to our reps who mobilised quickly to get the vehicle on scene. Our thoughts remain with those left bereaved and injured following this incident.

A group of Federation reps, trustees and supporters of The Police Treatment Centres are raising their rackets to raise cash for the charity.

Our own Stuart Cowan is on the team taking part in a 12-hour padelathon in August in aid of the Centres, which provide career-saving treatment to ill and injured officers.

Zoe Myatt, Head of Charity Engagement at the Police Treatment Centres, described fundraising events like the padelathon as "crucial".

She explained: “Running both of our treatment centres costs around £7.5 million each year, allowing us to provide vital treatment and support to those within the policing profession. An incredible 90% of this funding comes from the generosity of police staff, police officers and retired officers through voluntary monthly donations.

"Fundraising activities like this play a crucial role in helping the charity secure the additional income needed to continue this important work."

Over 1,000 children learn vital skills as part of railway safety week in Leeds 18/06/2026

A record 1000+ children have taken part in Leeds Station Safety Week.

Inspector Richard Price, who is also one of our Reps, explained that the importance of the week "can’t be understated as every year we see the serious consequences that can result from trespass, distraction or unsafe behaviour around trains and tracks."

One of the most difficult jobs a BTP officer can face is informing a family that their loved one has been harmed - or worse - on the railway. Initiatives that promote safety messages are vital.
