Stories have the power to connect us β€” explore voices, journeys, and resilience this Refugee Week on Libby πŸ“š

🌍 Refugee Week in Lewisham Libraries πŸ’›

In Lewisham Libraries, everyone is always welcome. We are proud to be free, safe spaces where people can connect, belong, and access knowledge.

πŸ‘‰ Explore the full programme of events across the borough via the link in our bio.

We fondly remember when Little Amal came to Lewisham and received her very own library card. A powerful symbol of welcome, community, and access to learning for all. πŸ“šβœ¨

Amal, the 12-foot puppet of a 10-year-old Syrian refugee child, represents millions of children displaced by war, violence, and persecution. Since 2021, her journey across the world has brought people together in acts of solidarity, art, and hope. Her message continues to resonate: β€œDon’t forget about us.”

At Lewisham Libraries, we stand with refugees and celebrate the stories they bring. Whether you’re new to Lewisham or have always been here, our doors, books, and services are open to you, always.

✨ SHEroes of Lewisham returns to Downham Library ✨

We’re excited to welcome back this inspiring, Arts Council-funded community project celebrating the incredible women who have shaped - and continue to shape - life in Lewisham.

Led by local poet Laila Sumpton, SHEroes of Lewisham brings together artists, schools, and libraries, pairing primary school children and writers with real-life female role models; from firefighters to dancers to suffragettes πŸ’œ

Through powerful poetry, art, and striking photography, this exhibition honours stories of strength, creativity, and resilience.

Having toured venues across the borough, it’s now back at Downham Library, don’t miss your chance to experience this vibrant celebration of local voices and community pride.
