This is Puerto Galera, the most biodiverse bay on earth ๐
It sits just a few hours south of Manila on the island of Mindoro. Puerto Galera is part of the Verde Island Passage, which scientists call the centre of the centre of marine biodiversity. That means more species of fish, coral and sea creatures live here than almost anywhere else on the planet. You can dive straight from the shore and find yourself swimming through coral gardens, drop offs and huge schools of fish within minutes.
Beyond the water, the town is full of small beach coves, family run dive shops and quiet corners that feel a world away from the busier tourist trails.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) joins the nation in celebrating the 128th Anniversary of Philippine Independence.
Today, we honor the courage, patriotism, and sacrifice of our beloved forebears who fought to secure our nationโs dignity and freedom, which gave birth to our very nation 128 years ago. Their very actions continue to inspire all of us to build a stronger, more inclusive, more unified, and globally competitive tourism industry. One that opens doors of opportunity for every Filipino, and one that allows communities across the archipelago to share in the promise of progress.
Likewise, we pay tribute to our heroes of today. The tourism workers, hospitality professionals, transport operators, tour guides, local artisans, entrepreneurs, and community stakeholders whose dedication showcases the very best of the indomitable Filipino spirit to the world.
On behalf of our grateful nation, the DOT proudly continues to share the story of the Filipino, one that embodies our resilience, creativity, warmth, and deep love for our homeland. Every destination promoted, every visitor welcomed, and every authentic Filipino experience shared strengthens our national identity and advances our place in the global tourism landscape.
As we celebrate our independence, let us rekindle and reinforce our shared commitment to our beloved country and work together in shaping a tourism industry that reflects the aspirations of our people, honors our rich heritage, and one that creates a bright future for generations to come.

The Philippines sits inside the Coral Triangle, the most biodiverse marine region on the planet ๐
That alone makes it one of the rarest dive destinations in the world, but what really sets it apart is the variety packed into one country. You can dive with thresher sharks at dawn in Cebu, drift through wartime wrecks in Palawan, float beside manta rays in a UNESCO marine park and hunt for tiny rare creatures in Anilao all within a single trip.
Most divers spend a lifetime chasing experiences like these across continents, yet here they sit within a few island hops of each other, which is part of the magic and a big reason the Philippines keeps pulling divers back.

On 12 June 1898, the Philippines declared independence from Spain ๐ต๐ญ
That single moment ended 333 years of colonial rule, and it reshaped the future of an entire nation. Araw ng Kalayaan is more than a date on the calendar, it is the heartbeat of a people who fought, hoped and believed in a free Philippines.
Every June, towns across the country come alive with flags lining the streets, parades filling the plazas and families gathering to sing the songs and share the stories passed down through generations. It is a day that belongs to every Filipino, at home and across the world.

The Coral Triangle covers six million square kilometres of ocean and the Philippines is at the heart of it ๐ต๐ญ
What most people donโt realise is that the Coral Triangle wasnโt always a conservation term as it was first identified by scientists in the 1980s after researchers discovered that the waters around the Philippines and its neighbours contained more coral and fish species per square kilometre than anywhere else ever recorded. That finding effectively redrew how the world understood marine biodiversity.
Today the region supports the livelihoods of nearly 130 million people across six nations, and the Philippines alone accounts for roughly a third of the Triangleโs total coastline. Protecting it isnโt just an environmental conversation itโs an economic and cultural one that runs through every coastal community in the archipelago.

Malapascua is a tiny island off the northern tip of Cebu that most people have never heard of ๐๏ธ
And it contains one of the most extraordinary dive experiences on the planet. Every morning, before the rest of the island stirs, divers descend to Monad Shoal, a submerged plateau sitting around 25 metres below the surface where thresher sharks arrive to be cleaned by smaller fish.
Graceful, deep water creatures that are rarely seen at diveable depths anywhere else in the world, yet here they show up with a reliability that has made Malapascua quietly legendary among the global diving community.

The Philippines has some of the most spectacular waterfalls in Southeast Asia, so here are a few to add to your radar ๐๏ธ
From 87 cascades stacked across a single river system in Davao Oriental to a curtain of ice-cold water hidden inside the Ifugao rice terraces of Sagada, the variety and scale of what this archipelago is hiding is genuinely staggering.
Have you visited any of these, or do you know one that deserves to be on this list? ๐
Baguio City is a place nobody puts on their Philippines list, so we're trying to change that ๐ต๐ญ
Sitting 1,500 metres above sea level in the Cordillera mountains of northern Luzon, this city runs cool, misty and unhurried while the rest of the archipelago basks in tropical heat.
Pine-lined roads, a thriving arts scene and a food market that locals will tell you is one of the finest in the entire country, strawberries grown in the highlands, traditional ube jam, freshly ground coffee and vegetable varieties you simply won't find anywhere else.
Then there are the surrounding mountain villages where Igorot culture and craft have remained deeply alive for generations.
