We are all in the mood!

At the event “3ª Jornada: o Mercado, o Carbono e o Café Regenerativo” in Minas Gerais yesterday, our ED Vanusia Nogueira took to the stage to address one of the most pressing questions facing the coffee sector: Where are we and where are we going?

Giving an overview on global coffee production, Vanusia shared a clear, data-driven picture of the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.

The future of coffee will be shaped by the decisions made today. Climate adaptation, data collaboration, and market diversification are not distant priorities - they are today’s imperatives.

Thank you to the organizers for creating space for this vital dialogue.

120 bags per hectare. That’s not a target — it’s a result!

This Coffea arabica farm in Espírito Santo, Brazil, is a demonstration farm within the state’s Sustainable Coffee Project and proves what is possible when farmers, knowledge, and the right support come together.

While the global average yield for Arabica coffee hovers around 20–30 bags per hectare, the producers featured here by , Undersecretary of State for Rural Development of Espírito Santo, are achieving four to six times that figure — sustainably.

This is what the future of coffee looks like: productive, resilient, and equitable. A future where farmers thrive, quality is preserved, and the value chain works for everyone.

Geopolitical tensions often reach much further than borders. In coffee, indirect effects can influence costs, logistics and trade dynamics across the entire value chain.

From energy prices to fertilizer costs and shipping routes, the Strait of Hormuz is one of the indicators the sector is watching closely.

Swipe to understand what this could mean for coffee producers, traders and consumers worldwide.

Today at Conferenza CO[OPERA] 2026 in Rome, ICO Executive Director joined Mr Andrea Illy on stage for a session on the Italian strategy for the coffee sector under Italy’s Mattei Plan for Africa, implemented through ACT Programme.

During the discussion, she highlighted the role the ICO plays as the home of coffee diplomacy and as a key facilitator of partnerships, emphasizing how the right investments and a long-term vision can unlock meaningful growth across coffee-producing countries in Africa, promote local value addition, and strengthen their position in global markets.

We thank the Italian Government and private sector for their commitment to and investment in development cooperation programmes that promote more equitable and resilient coffee value chains.

📈 Coffee Market Report - April 2026

The ICO Composite Indicator Price (I-CIP) averaged 266.24 US cents/lb in April 2026, a 2.7% decrease from March 2026. The market appeared to weigh two opposing forces: the closure of the Strait of Hormuz since 4 March, which pushed up the crude oil price by 55.8% and shipping freight costs by 43.6% between 27 February and 30 April, and a continued improvement in the global supply outlook. On balance, the latter factor appeared to have outweighed the former.
