π Fungi Friday is back! π
It's been a little while since our last fungi feature, but nature hasn't stopped fruiting in the meantime.
This week we're highlighting the Pale Brittlestem (Psathyrella candolleana), one of the most common mushroom species found on site. It has been appearing more frequently along the West Route this June, often growing in clusters on decaying wood.
Like many fungi, Pale Brittlestems play an important role in the ecosystem by breaking down dead plant material and recycling nutrients back into the soil, helping keep wetland habitats healthy.
Keep an eye out on your next visit. You might spot these delicate, pale-capped mushrooms peeking out beside the path π

Shearing day at WWT London Wetland Centre! πβοΈ
Our flock of Grey Faced Dartmoor and Hebridean sheep recently had their annual haircut, helping them stay comfortable through the warmer months.
The resulting fleeces are now beginning an exciting journey as part of the London City Farm Yarn project, where wool from farms across London is collected, processed and spun into a unique London yarn.
A big pile of fleece today, a skein of London yarn tomorrow. π§Ά
