Today the Lord Speaker welcomed the Japanese Ambassador to the UK Embassy of Japan in the UK, Hiroshi Suzuki, to the Lords and wished His Excellency a happy birthday.
The Lord Speaker, Lord Forsyth of Drumlean, said 'For the UK, Japan is a vital partner in trade, investment, security, defence and many other areas. The 🇬🇧🇯🇵 relationship has never been stronger, underpinned by our countries' innovation, traditions, values and a determination to work together. ❓ Lords members press the government on World Ocean Day, the impact of online hate speech, dangerous substances advertised as physique-enhancing, and face-to-face banking services.
📃 In bills, the Lords will debate the main purpose and key themes of the Steel Industry (Nationalisation) Bill at second reading, and detailed line-by-line scrutiny of the Social Housing Bill and the Civil Aviation (Consumer Protection and Regulatory Reform) Bill is also scheduled.
🗣️ In debates, members will discuss the recommendations of the Jo Cox Civility Commission, and measures to tackle child poverty.
📝 In committees, the Childhood Vaccinations Committee will speak to Baroness Gerada as part of its inquiry into childhood vaccination coverage in England. Also, looking into national resilience, the National Resilience Committee will speak to Baroness Batters.
