Gilbert Sheldon, Archbishop of Canterbury, 1663-1677, was born on this day 1598.

This late 18th-century print depicting Sheldon was engraved by R. Clamp after a drawing made by artist and publisher, Sylvester Harding (1745-1809), of an existing oil painting.

John Wesley, one of the founders of the Methodist movement, was born on this day in 1703.

This rare copy of his second compilation of hymns was included in a past exhibition 'Cantate Domino: Music in the Lambeth Palace Library Collections', in 2023.

Simon Sudbury, Archbishop of Canterbury from 1375, died on this day in 1381, during the Peasants' Revolt.

He was seized while saying Mass, dragged to Tower Hill and beheaded.
